Red Fox in Winter (Copic Marker Drawing)

Red Fox in Winter (Copic Marker Drawing)

And today….something a little different. Just drawing with my Copics, no voiceover. Just to give everyone a few minutes to relax, take a deep breath, and enjoy.

I have no idea why the video won’t embed in this post – but you can watch it here:

Note…

Tomorrow, as said in the video, will be my MFT day – so you’ll get a cardmaking video on their blog and then at 5pm Pacific, I’ll be doing a color-along on Facebook Live! It was having foxes in both of these MFT projects that inspired me to do a fox drawing today. You’ll be able to download the image to color with me from the blog post. Set your phone alarm to remind you!

  • Copic Markers: EH – Blick

The Happiest Accident: Recovering art from a (gasp) liquid spill!

Some of the projects that get the most attention ’round here are the flubs – when stuff goes wrong! Well, this one nearly had me starting over, but…as I always tell YOU – it’s just paper. If it screws up, keep going til you learn something. And in this case, I think I found a very cool technique!

The intent was just to color pretty poinsettias. And fortunately I taped all that part before The Incident. So if you just want to learn to color them normally you can.

Video

In the middle of the video I started creating what I had hoped to be a faux watercolor background….several colors blended, dripped, and sprayed with a mister full of colorless blender, so it would look like watercolor but be in Copic instead. Then….The Incident happened! See it all in the video:

Watch on YouTube

As you saw, the colorless blender “pushed” the color to the back side. The flowers retained their shape and shading – just a little fuzzy around the edges. But the color! So much more vibrant than regular coloring! You can see the difference:

To “tidy” things up, I did some loose sketchy lines around the outside edges of the flowers. Sooooooo pretty!

Want more ideas like this?

There’s a class that has a technique similar enough to this that I shouldn’t have been surprised – I didn’t know it would work as it did, though. But if you love these kinds of crazy things to do with your Copics, check out the Copic Art Journaling class, and your fancy will be tickled!

Epic Layered Christmas Scene Card

Epic Layered Christmas Scene Card

It’s new release time for Purple Onion Designs – so there’s new Stacy Yacula stamps to be had in the Sweetest Town release!!

Supplies for this project are linked at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links may be used at no cost to you.

When Michele emailed me the new images for this release, I got so starry eyed by the buildings that, well, I barely paid attention to the rest. Ha! I had this whole layering idea that I couldn’t WAIT to do. I picked out two groupings of characters – since I know lots of you like grouped images so you don’t have to do the masking yourself. What I missed? The other little critters were all carrying packages! This city needs shoppers! ha….

Video

The video will show you some of the layers I created, and a bit about the shimmer on it – it’s a short one for today!

The toy store on the left is one I’d love to shop in! So cute. Any time I travel I always look to see if there’s an independent toy store – so I can add to my little collection of wooden toys.

Cute little snowman and ihs buddies are going to be a staple…love this little sweet stamp!

The bakery has so many goodies in the window – YUM! If you know me, you know how much I love my treats and breads!

Each building set can be used on individual cards too, but oh how lovely is it as one epic scene on a slimline card!

Double blended light sources (Nativity card)

Double blended light sources (Nativity card)

My mailbox saw a pack of fun new stamps from Sunny Studio Stamps at the end of the summer – and I teased up a couple other cards when I posted the first fall one. Now we’re in the throes of Christmas cards!

Supplies for this project are linked at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links may be used at no cost to you.

I used Holy Night to create today’s card – and with many many layers I made the background with TWO light sources! Watch the vide too see how:

Most light sources come from the sun or a lamp – sometimes through the window or some other place, but it’s most often a simple clear place. But with this card, since there’s a manger AND a star, both can cast a glow onto everything on the card!

I’m glad I remembered the pack of acetate cards I have – I need to use them this season!

Christmas card: Cats on a cold winter porch

Christmas card: Cats on a cold winter porch

You’ve heard about that hot tin roof. Now, its winter companion: cats on a cold winter porch!

Every once in a while, I create a card that, well, it has some challenges… This one had filming issues with a few sections just disappearing, but also, I had to keep adjusting the colors to make the kitties stand out!

Supplies for this project are linked at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links may be used at no cost to you.

I had started with one vision, basing my background on a front porch that I found on the interwebs. Watch the crazy process, and scroll down on this post to see an easier card with this stamp set that got posted a week ago!

You can see I had to add snow on their heads; ha! They were just blending right into that door. I could have made lighter kitties to avoid that, but didn’t think of it at the time I started the coloring.

Fortunately for Christmas cards, I can add snow – and nobody gets lost in the details that didn’t work out!

I recently created this video for the MFT channel with the same set – lots easier, and it comes with instructions in the voiceover. Ha!

An extra video – created recently over at MFT:

Color a silly Thanksgiving dinner card

Color a silly Thanksgiving dinner card

A few weeks back, I shared a sneak peek of this silly Thanksgiving dinner card…..with a turkey looking on with shock at his cousin sitting on the dinner table! The stamp set is from Sunny Studio Stamps – and it’s called Bountiful Autumn.

Supplies for this project are linked at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links may be used at no cost to you.

I had the “vision” for this one as soon as I started stamping – it changed a little along the way. Primarily the internal debate was asking myself how prominent or faded that turkey (ive)( would be. Watch that get resolved:

View on YouTube.

The lightbulb (or candlabra) above the turkey is implied rather than drawn in – reminding me to sometimes keep some mystery going on!

The embossed sentiment – oh how I love good font combos!
