It’s World Watercolor Month….but today I’m ColoringWater instead of WaterColoring! Hope that’s ok with you! I picked Lawn Fawn’s cute little sub for this card – easy peasy masking and airbrushing to make a sweet little card.

Hi all! Today’s something a little different over here on the ol’ blog. There’s a video – just not a crafty one. Read on!
First- a little bloghop with some friends.
Some friends were talking on Facebook about how depressing things are at the moment…I can’t stop thinking about the thousands of kiddos separated from their moms and dads, and I’m praying that the huge-a-mongous fundraiser that went viral will help to reunite them all. You know what I love best about that fundraiser? People from all perspectives have joined in to do one thing. Together. Just to support families. We need more things that bring us together!
Anyhow…our little bunch of friends just wanted to make something…because art can heal, us, right? So if you’re feeling blue, then:
hug your loved ones….
and share a little of that love by making a card to send to someone you love…
reach out and call your US Senators at (202) 224-3121 and ask them to support SB3036. It’s not comprehensive immigration reform that we need, but we know it’ll take them forever to pass something big. The “Keep Families Together Act” would only deal with stopping family separation, and maybe they could all get on board with one thing at a time?
then pay your love forward and donate to one of the groups helping reunite the families!
So below is what I made (sorry, no video!)…I hugged my pups since my family is far away….and I’ve made a $500 donation to RAICES, Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services. (They’re the beneficiary of the Facebook fundraiser, but I don’t trust Facebook to handle my content much less my donations (ha) so I went directly to RAICES to do mine.) I hope you’ll consider giving, too. Together, we can make a difference for families!
I used Upon a Star from Lawn fawn, and used Copic airbrush for the background. The card is made of two panels glued together to make a card that opens this way (see video on Instagram today to watch it “open”…. (see it HERE)
The left panel (4-1/4 x 11, scored in half) has the little fox on it. To get the mama fox in the right spot, I held the second panel up to the light, aligning the crease, and sketched where the baby was – then stamped mama in place. I trimmed the front panel by hand so mama would have a partial panel looking out at the stars, sitting behind her pup.
The inside of the card needed a little TLC…I airbrushed just the corner and embossed the heart constellation on it. This is the inside of the panel with baby fox on it; the other half of the mama panel is glued to the back of this, so the card back has 2 layers.
If you’re interested in more airbrush info, stay tuned, I have a couple videos coming up next month with some. 🙂
I’m going to pre-apologize because I think Inlinkz won’t show up here since I no longer subscribe, but I’m hoping that you can still click on the link. And that you’ll join in, too! I believe the link-up will be open for a week, so you can make your own family-themed card to add to the collection!
For a prize, I’m offering up two classes: one to a lucky commenter, and one to a participant in the hop. Fresh mojo only, no linking up old cards please! Winner will be announced on July 1.
I shot a superfast little vlog the other day just chatting about some July stuff coming up, and dog footage! We’ve had some major summer weather already – unheard of here to have a week of hot weather this early! The studio gets up to the 80s by midafternoon, so we’ve been getting up early to get to work, then chilling in front of a fan. But if this weather continues all summer, we’ll be heading for this waterpark more days than not!
World Watercolor Month is in July….I’m getting together a list of prompts for anyone who’d like to join me! You’ll be able to use the prompts to stamp an image and watercolor it, create cards or Bible journaling pages, tags or bookmarks…..anything to just get a little bit of watercoloring in each day. I’m going to try to create a daily 30 second video for Instagram, so be sure to follow along – and turn on notifications so you don’t miss any!
The new release from Ellen Hutson today inspired me! A friend at church has been sick for a few weeks – and that inspired me to make this card when I saw I could make this Everyday Hero wear a “Here to Help” sweatshirt! I used Copic airbrush for the background….see how when you watch the video below!
I used the same background technique with the Hot Mess Lady…cute eh?

I’m excited to share my challenge creation today! Copic asked if I’d participate this month; they ask a bunch of different artists to make something with just three colors of the company’s choosing – and turn us all loose! Check their social media to see the rest of them all month long. And each month! You can participate too, they might share yours!
I decided to try some bokeh – which meant looking it up to get more info. First, it’s pronounced bo-ke. It doesn’t rhyme with bouquet. And it’s not bokUH either. It’s an eh sound – not a Fonzie “ay” but just the short e kind. Like if you were saying Kentucky without the ntucky! The effect is the soft blurring of spots of light in the background of an image; technically, it’s not those bright “shapes” that we often call bokeh – the shapes are not actually the bokeh, the bokeh is the effect. Photographers consider bokeh really beautiful when it’s a subtle effect, not jarring and “taking the stage” by being hard-edged shapes. So I learned a ton!
Mentioned in the video: I talked about the hex chart – you can get one HERE. And the Copic Jumpstart class is HERE. (all Copic classes are HERE)
I filmed two but only ended up with one for the video – this one suited what I had researched a lot better. I used Copic Airbrush first, then added leaves…. Watch the video below or click HERE to see it in HD on YouTube.
Bonus!
My earlier version footage was eaten by my computer. Oy, right? Alas. But on this one I had added the extra blobs of colorless blender, which I didn’t like nearly as much after creating them, so there’s that! It won’t stop me from framing these two pieces as a diptych for our spring art show at church.

Today’s video is a bit special….it’s a SURPRISE bloghop! A group of us got together to share the Courage stamp set released earlier this year as a fundraiser for BCRF – and it’s a surprise to Ellen! The cause is near and dear to hear heart, and we all hope that if you haven’t purchased the stamp-and-die set, you’ll hop over and do that. Note: in this post I am ONLY linking to the stamp set, and without an affiliate link …. I want all the funds to go to breast cancer research!
I got out my airbrush for my card today….But even if you aren’t an airbrusher, you can possibly achieve something similar with Picked Raspberry distress inking and emboss over that – just be sure it’s good and dry before embossing (and use a de-static tool).

This whole thing was a bit of a surprise even to me – I wasn’t at all sure what would happen. Or if I’d try re-airbrushing on top. But I’m super pleased with the result!
Today, I’m only linking to the stamp and die set used on this card – and it’s not an affiliate link. All of the proceeds will go to the cause, not to anyone on this hop! So please do join in and pick up a set…then go share the card you have created using #BCRF #BCRFfundraiser #cancerresearch #BeTheEnd #essentialsbyellenbcrf
Does it count as a mixed media card if I use both colored pencil and Copic airbrush? *grin* Whether or not it does, it was a blast to make this one!

The initial card may have been a bit time consuming but – I can see that this could be made in multiples – stamp a bunch, coloring on the sofa, then reuse that mask to do lots of skies. If you’re great with Distress Inks, you can likely figure out how to do that sky with inking!
Also – I realized afterward that I never went back to put in the pencil numbers. SO sorry. It’s time consuming and I don’t often just totally forget that step! In order though, my little list says: 941 948 1033 1034 1082 935 947 041 047 1094 947 926 and 937. That should be the order anytime a pencil color is swapped. Maybe.
I also made this one with the same stamp set, but with a Copic background (not airbrush) adapted from the Mini Course at Art-Classes….so much fun!
