Mama Bear – new baby card

Mama Bear – new baby card

I’ve got a little bonus card for you here on the blog today….I did shoot a quick speed video to post over on Instagram so be sure to check in for that!

A bunch of us on the Ellen Hutson design team got together to make baby cards to send to Emily, a member of the team. After I made mine I realized she was having twins so….we’re gonna pretend that Papa Bear is off with the other little baby, maybe he needed to go get whatever mama bear said she wanted at this moment!

Hopefully Em will forgive me for my ooops 🙂 Because it’s a darling little card anyway. It goes to show you don’t have to have specific themed stamps if you can adapt what you have!

You’ll see in the IGTV video that I didn’t fully stamp the bear – did a little post-it masking to leave room to add her hospital gown and baby.

And then I reallllly wanted a “mama bear” stamp, but even looking through all the stamps I have, I didn’t have anything to adapt….so I just wrote it in by hand!

Go over to Emily’s blog and give her a little love on one of her projects. Or two or three! She’s not a new mom but if you have any mama-of-twins advice, maybe she could use some!

Copic Coloring Diverse Girlfriends

Copic Coloring Diverse Girlfriends

HOW did Black History Month not only sneak up on me but also end up nearly running past me!? Typically I make a fuss over a couple of diverse colorings here and on social media, but it’s been such a crazy month with things going haywire (I think the website is finally fixed!!), I hardly knew if I was coming or going.

Supplies for this project are linked at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links may be used at no cost to you.

And with this stamp set – I realized while recording the voiceover that I had made an oops – the “Sale” sign is on the INSIDE of the shop. As is the curtain on the door! ha! Well you can color the street on the outside if you win the stamp set, right? LOL!

View on YouTube.

I didn’t add the colors onto the screen for all of it, but here they all are in their fist of glory:

Giveaway is closed, sorry~

Color a Unique Easter Card with Copic Markers

Color a Unique Easter Card with Copic Markers

This is a rather unique Easter card….in that it doesn’t look much like one aside from having chicks in it!

Supplies for this project are linked at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links may be used at no cost to you.

I started by using my MISTI and some Eclipse tape to create a circle of chickies…are they playing….chick around the Easter egg? chick chick rooster?

Watch the video on YT.

COLORING TIPS

The colors used are intensely barn-y ones – nice rich, warm colors in the foreground. Then soft, lighter colors for the distant farm and trees.

Creating the distance in the picture really does come from the color intensity difference – the contrast pulls the barn way out in front of the scene!

FINISHING TIPS

I tried all different colors for card bases, not wanting to make yet one more yellow card, but ya know….sometimes it just works! If it weren’t for Easter I might have gone with a dark brown, but I’m not sure I’ve ever made an Easter card with a brown base. Have you?

I created a video with this stamp set HERE…and I used a different approach on this card, with a shaft of light coming from heaven, and really emphasizing the twinkle of the light with white pen dots and sparkles.

In my 24 tags series in November, I used watercolor pencil with Vintage Santa (see that post HERE) – this time, Copic marker! I created strong lighting by making dark areas around Santa, including adding a hint at his body on the left, and a wall on the right. The shadow moves across his beard, too – and I used a bunch of white pen to add more swirls and hairs, as well as reduce the effect of all the black lines in the stamp.

I’ve got another example of a Christmas card made with a non-Christmas stamp – this Lovely Pandas set was from Valentines Day last year, methinks!

I created a forest background with a takeoff on the birch trees lesson in Winter Wonderland class – I drew in a mailbox, but a little to high up for this little panda to reach! I also used my white pen to cover up the black outlines on the white sections of the panda.
