Today’s card is an idea that evolved over a long period of time; I saw mention on some kids art blog post eons ago about using salt with watercolor. They didn’t show visuals, just mentioned it as something to try. And I saw it also on someone’s art journal technique list. Again, no visuals. Gah!

The idea stuck in my craw, though, and I decided to play with it and see what happened. A full day of experimenting ended with this card well after dark…..and it was worth a full day to get here!
How crazy is that whole salt idea!? Oh Lordy. I wonder how someone stumbled on the idea. An accident at a lunch counter maybe? In any case, I *adore* the technique.

love this……..I always learn from you……. thank you
Oh wow! Beautiful.
Beautiful background and the colors are so vibrant and salt made it work. Beautiful card.
I LOVE using this technique. I have done it with my kids lots and in my art journals but never thought of doing it on my backgrounds. Silly! Thanks for the beautiful reminder. 😀
love the card, for me that salt method never turned out as i’d hoped or though or wanted, but yeah your card is awesome
I have no words to describe this beauty. Thanks for sharing. Waiting for review…X
What a beautiful card! That background is AMAZING!!!
Oh it does look like a Monet’s Garden. Sonja is so right!!! I love how you just let the watercolours speak for themselves.
Beautiful!!
Such a wonderful and inspiring card you created !
Oh, wow. Just … wow. Gorgeous.
It was totally worth whatever time you put in to discover the secrets of this technique. Absolutely stunning!
Hugs,
Snoopy 😀
This is the second time I’ve seen watercolor with salt. Your card looks amazing.
Can’t wait to give the technique a try. Thanks for sharing.
That looked so fun. Going to have to try it. Love the card.
What a dreamy look! I love it!
I love your creative thinking. About the salt technique, I read it in a paper crafting book 10 years back. I recently thought of it and bought rock salt for the same but
I am yet to try it.
SO so beautiful!
Beautiful card! LOVE that background
It’s a great technique!
It’s like looking through a window with rain streaming down it, out to a vibrant colored garden! So pretty!
Beautiful!!! As always!
This is so great! The background is amazing.
Oh this is gorgeous Sandy! I will have to give this a try!
Very pretty. Great technique.
OMG, girl you’ ve done it again. That is amazing. I’ve used salt on watercolor for years, but not like that. More often for a starry night sky… I love this.
Very pretty Sandy, I like how you did this background!
Amazing, Sandy! What a fun technique to play with. After you blotted away the salt, there was a tiny bunny shape at the base of the flower garden! Did you see it? It’s hidden behind the ribbon in the finished card. Truly a lost and found image! ♡
Oh! I missed a bunny!?!?
Love using salt on my watercolors!!! Makes amazing texture when painting rocks and sand!!
Beautiful use of colors!
I love the color combinations! Would love to have that combo on a shirt! Thanks for another fabulous video. I honestly don’t know how you do what you do.
Donna
Wow, Sandy! This is stunning (not that I’d expect anything less). Simply in awe, once again. Gorgeous ♥
Beautiful card! That salt technique looks fun to try too!
I thoroughly enjoyed watching your video of what you did to make this card. Who would’ve thought adding a little salt would make such a beautiful difference. I also enjoyed your “lost and found” technique. Lovely!
wow what a cool look the salts created!
This is a fabulous watercolor piece.
WOW!! I love it!! Beautiful!!
gorgous colors on this car, love it
Gorgeous card! I instantly saw the trail and flowers and love how the colors bloom out! Such a beautiful card!
OMGeeee fabulous card – love the texture you achieved
SO pretty sandy! All those colors and you didn’t make mud like I would LOL 😉
It honestly might be those paints. LOL! Spend enough on something and maybe it does some good. Ha!
Well, how cool is this!!! I don’t know which I found more fascinating-the technique or that cool little watercolor set. You mentioned it being great for traveling. I see it as a little more permanent than that. I’m always looking for smaller craft supplies because I live in 500 sq. ft. of space. Hubby and I downsized drastically after retirement and absolutely love living small. I’m off to purchase those paints. Thanks for sharing!
That one is crazy pricey! But it’s by far my fave. For cardmakers though, the Kuretake are my recommendation – and the Koi Sketchbox is also an awesome set if you’re worried about space. You’ll see both in Saturday’s post.
That’s such a cool background!
oh this watercolor is amazing!! 🙂
Such a beautiful card! Love the salt technique. Haven’t used that since my watercolor class in college! I’ll have to try it out on a card! 🙂
Your colouring always amazes me Sandy! Keep posting your amazing work I love to see it!
Wow, gorgeous background!
Wow. It reminds me of space pictures. Beautiful.
Great card and video! I appreciate the efforts! Thank you for sharing!
So, so pretty, Sandy! Your talents are incredibly inspiring. Thank you!
Wow, great card. I’ve never heard of using salt with watercolor, but it looks great!
There are times when I watch you and don’t even know what to say other than you totally amaze me. This water color is so beautiful and I want to try it! I don’t know what I will find but feeling a bit lost these days so hopefully it will be something good!
This is SO beautiful and inspiring! Looks like Monet’s garden I’d say. Can’t wait for your watercolor overview tomorrow.
That’ll actually be on Saturday; this post and video were supposed to go live tomorrow (Friday) but I found out this morning I had my dates mixed up. So hang tight til Sat and it’ll all be here 🙂
