Today’s card is an idea that evolved over a long period of time; I saw mention on some kids art blog post eons ago about using salt with watercolor. They didn’t show visuals, just mentioned it as something to try. And I saw it also on someone’s art journal technique list. Again, no visuals. Gah!

The idea stuck in my craw, though, and I decided to play with it and see what happened. A full day of experimenting ended with this card well after dark…..and it was worth a full day to get here!
How crazy is that whole salt idea!? Oh Lordy. I wonder how someone stumbled on the idea. An accident at a lunch counter maybe? In any case, I *adore* the technique.

This was a lot of fun to watch “develop” as the colors spread & blended. Very pretty.
Beautiful. You are so talented. Between you and Jennifer McGuire I was moved to purchase some of the Kuretake pens. I can’t wait to play.
Wow! I love it! Reminds me of silk scarfs my mother and my grandma had some years ago. Soooo pretty!

Very cool. This bloghop is giving me a long list of ideas I need to try. Thanks for the video. Its so much easier to understand when you see it demonstrated.
Ooooh, love it!
I love it! My mom did watercolors, and told me that salt creates interesting texture, but I neither tried it myself nor saw it in her work. I’m off to fill a small container with salt for art. Yay!
Wow! What a cool look! Very pretty!
I love love love the way you created this card. I vaguely remember using salt on water colors when I was a kid back in the covered wagon days. I could pick out the groups of flowers and path pretty early on but when you added the horizon line…it really made it all come forward and so apparent. Great job….the card is beautiful. TFS
such a beautiful card with crystal-like designs! the salt technique is fun; the hardest part is having the patience to wait for it to dry.
gorgeous! I am off to try it!
I could watch you all day. Gorgeous!!!
Your watercoloring is amazing! Very impressionist!

Such a beautiful card! Even more ideas to add to my “must try” list! Who would have thought salt could be as tasty in crafting as it is on potato chips and French fries!!
What a lovely card! Thanks for sharing!
I am always amazed at the end of your videos to see the end result. It’s always fabulous! This is such a beautiful card, and I’m not sure I would have been able to cover up even a small portion of it.
WOW!!!! How amazingly beautiful!!!!!
Absolutely gorgeous!!!! Thanks for sharing this fun technique.
How fun is this card!!!
You are a true artist! Have really been enjoying the watercolor tut’s More, more, more please.
Salt – YES – I’ve actually used this technique before! Many years ago, I was taking a painting class at the Community College here. We were painting Santas with acrylic paints, but we did watercolor washes for the backgrounds… and we used ROCK SALT. We washed some pale grayish blues all over, then dropped pieces of the rock salt here and there – (let it dry completely), & it ended up looking like billowing fog or something – very cool. I’d almost forgotten about it… thanks for the reminder!
Your Lost & Found technique also reminds me of my childhood. My Dad was a H.S. art instructor – sometimes he’d let us close our eyes and make a scribble on a piece of paper – then we’d give it to him and he’d made a picture out of it. He was the best Dad ever!
I’m going to call your piece “Memory Lane”.
What a beautiful background using the salt technique. Totally loved it !
I can’t get over how incredibly gorgeous this card is. Amazing. Thank you so much for sharing, and for the video showing how you did it.
