Halloween card: Witch way is the candy?

Halloween card: Witch way is the candy?

If you knew me in real life you’d know what a sucker I am for it – I have to be careful not to keep it in the house, or I’ll be a snacking fool!

However….the Witch Way is the Candy set is back and it’s CALORIE FREE! It was a 2014 set, and was so beloved that it’s back – with all new sentiment fonts. I love the newer style, so I’m glad I hadn’t snagged this set back in the day even though I drooled at the idea of coloring this sweet little witch! Check out the video below.

The masking was pretty simple here; First I stamped the witch and kitty; masked those out, then the froggie (making sure his eyeballs peeked out past her hat), then after masking his feet, I added the pumpkin. Sometimes I like a good “tight” group of images, and if we try to put them all on the ground next to each other, the image gets kinda wide.

I’ve kept the coloring pretty straightforward – a good shadow from her big hat and another from her cape, a decent cast shadow behind her – and the rest can all be faked!

For finishing touches, I used the new dies to give a beautiful stitched edge to the panel, popped it on dimensional adhesive, then stamped the sentiment on a scrap of white cardstock. It’s also popped up, and the end is wound around behind the colored panel.

One stamp two ways (halloween, Christmas)

One stamp two ways (halloween, Christmas)

The Bear Ware 2 set has got Halloween and Christmas accessories for the All Inside stamp set with the cute bear….so I made a scene for each!

The finished halloween card took way too long – but oh what fun! I learned a ton about just how much color had to be added to make it work. Eeep!

The Christmas version is lighter and simpler – and you can see a comparison of several color combos to make “white” objects – tans, blues, warm greys, and a BV in that background.

And just for fun, since I overdid the coloring on the first Halloween one, I colored another with a background from the Autumn Scenes class

Embossing flowers on top of Copic airbrush

Embossing flowers on top of Copic airbrush

Today’s video is a bit special….it’s a SURPRISE bloghop! A group of us got together to share the Courage stamp set released earlier this year as a fundraiser for BCRF – and it’s a surprise to Ellen! The cause is near and dear to hear heart, and we all hope that if you haven’t purchased the stamp-and-die set, you’ll hop over and do that. Note: in this post I am ONLY linking to the stamp set, and without an affiliate link …. I want all the funds to go to breast cancer research!

I got out my airbrush for my card today….But even if you aren’t an airbrusher, you can possibly achieve something similar with Picked Raspberry distress inking and emboss over that – just be sure it’s good and dry before embossing (and use a de-static tool).

This whole thing was a bit of a surprise even to me – I wasn’t at all sure what would happen. Or if I’d try re-airbrushing on top. But I’m super pleased with the result!

Supplies

  • Essentials by Ellen, Courage stamp and die set, fundraiser for Breast Cancer Research Foundation
  • Today, I’m only linking to the stamp and die set used on this card – and it’s not an affiliate link. All of the proceeds will go to the cause, not to anyone on this hop! So please do join in and pick up a set…then go share the card you have created using #BCRF #BCRFfundraiser #cancerresearch #BeTheEnd #essentialsbyellenbcrf
Light Source Focal Points in Wintry Scenes

Light Source Focal Points in Wintry Scenes

I’ve done a few of these design-related videos from time to time and you guys seem to like them….so today I’ll talk a little about focal points – but this time with *light*….yes your lighting can direct the eye to where you want it to! Light can make your scene more interesting, and doesn’t always require that the rest of the image be shaded “properly” – it can be just the way you set up the background.

Hope that was helpful – and especially my students in the Autumn Scenes, City Sidewalks, and Winter Wonderland classes will recognize some of the scenes and be able to use these ideas to expand on their own scenes on cards!

Color a kids halloween card

Color a kids halloween card

When I saw the Costume Party stamp set – I knew exactly what I was going to do. And it was that sentiment sign! ha. I know, I know, I’m weird! But in today’s video you get a lot more – mostly about coloring a backlit image.

Even if you just colored all the flat-color, single layer parts, including the sky – this would be amazing.  Hope you try it out!

This card, as many, brings me to constantly ask myself, HOW MANY MARKERS do I use on one piece!? Lol!

Custom DIY Patterned Paper + Plant Lady #thehumanrainbow

The Leading Ladies collection at Ellen Hutson is growing! This sweet plant lady has a green thumb…even though I don’t. (Hey at least I can on a card, right??) I’ll show you how I colored here in my #humanrainbow style, as well as creating my own patterned paper with some NEW papers from Ellen, too! (Colorable! woohoo!)

A few more color combos, courtesy of Crafty Lady stamp set!

And one more share…last night I was playing around coloring a garden for the plant lady. This is as good as my gardening gets – MARKERS! lol.
