Color a winter scene using dies (and OH MY GOSH glitter!?!?!)

October 9, 2020 by Sandy Allnock 131 Comments Filed Under: Featured

I thought I’d start by sharing the inspiration for me to make a “set” of sparkly cards…the Sparkly Christmas set! ha! I’m no glitter girl (see this hilarious video!) but I thought I’d use my ONE little jar of glitter to see if I could put it on just about everything! hahaha! This one is made with the new tiny tags set and sparkly Christmas stamps – I punched a circle to glitterfy, and stacked it up with the sentiment and a red nose – and antlers! This would be great to give a stocking stuffer to a crafty friend – a little pot of sparkly joy!

Supplies for this project are linked at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links may be used at no cost to you.

Video

There are lots more cards to share – in the video I walk you through the new release and all my crazy projects, and the second half is a tutorial on coloring a scene card – using dies!

Birch Trees and deer

The finished card is sooo pretty. Trimming off the border gives the background die a totally different look, and the deer are so cool! I couldn’t find a capturable link to the crazy spinning deer so you can play with it yourself…..but all I searched for was “white tailed deer” on my ipad and it was the first item that came up; I looked on my computer and that’s not first….and the ipad won’t let me “save” a link to share. Boo, internet!

Here are the colors I used…

The birch forest also works with other items – like a bear tucked into a sleigh!

Tone on tone with deer, snow, and glitter….

I created a whoooooollllle lot of deer and used them on one card to create a herd – with a strip of glitter as the snow!

Bear Ware

The bear from All Inside is back with more accessories! I thought the shapes of the dies for the gifts and sleigh really looked like gifts and a sleigh – just needed color! And glitter. Of course. Ha!

And then I made a scene using a background from the new Winter Storybook class. The snow is created by first only partially stamping the sleigh in the blac k ink – then adding dots of white pen and blobs of Glossy Accents to stick the glitter onto!

This one uses a sky from the new Star Light Star Bright class – and the bear is wearing his beard! I did have to draw in a little santa suit.

Twirling Flurries

If you’re a fan of coverplate textural backgrounds, this one is fun – lots of swirly bits and stars!

Here I made my own moon by punching a circle out of a circle, and of course over-glittering. (Is that a thing?)

Snowglobes

I made Shaker Globs that weren’t actually shakers…..but they still work! It’s a fun shape to tuck small things into – even tiny dies like the tree and snowflake.

And add in a tiny stamp and some text to create a tag!

And for the overachievers – those who took the Clearly Copic class will remember learning how to color a snowglobe!

Merry Little Christmas

This set has a city, a town, a cabin, and a snowman, and some pretty little sentiments…here I stamped the city several times, leaving an opening for the snowman. Then created dramatic light shining on him – and adding glitter just onto the snowman portion.

The town is a little more remote – with a beautiful sky, and a car heading home with their tree!

And a more traditional image for a snowglobe….the tiny town!

Knockout Forest

This die cuts out a bunch of trees, and I saved the trees to add back on in between the open spaces, then added glitter onto them. The sentiment is fro Love and Light, with glossy accents over it very carefully since I don’t own any glitter embossing powder.

Tag Trio, Warmest Wishes

Love these new tags! There are a few sizes, and they work well with the sentiments and accessories in Warmest Wishes. For the red one – a flood of Copic color, with snow added in white pen and glitter. The other tag has the strips stamped in a kraft color (masking out the packages first) then glossy accents and glitter embellishing them!

Plushies

If you’re a fan of felt, there’s something in this release for you too! There’s a gingerboy and ginger girl…

And I played dressup – cut out the ginger girl from both the brown and red and trimmed off the hands and feet to create a dress!

Loved your glitter video and shared it with someone who loves glitter but not all the mess. I think my favorite cards are your herd of deer card and the twirling flurries cards again with the deer. You have the right idea, if you are going to have the glitter mess, make it count and get lots of cards. Your gingerbread people are great as well.

I love your “herd” of deer and the glitter bar of snow. I am not a glitter fan (and I know you really aren’t either) but this is really nice. I think I might try doing something like that but use glittery embossing powder since it isn’t quite as messy and doesn’t flake off like glitter. Thanks for sharing some really good ideas. I always like to try things out that you sample for us!

Are you feeling ok? Do you need to lie down after that glitter attack? 🙂
That was awesome! Love all your glitter projects and so many things in the EH release (ooh that lovely sleigh). Thanks so much for all the ideas. Your lovely deer in the birch trees card… the sky looked great as the background. Just amazing how your mind works.

Sandy you always go above and beyond! All of your creative juices were flowing in this release, we got to sample it all in one post. I love the bear, so his fancy sleigh is my favorite. Your Copic coloring skills are amazing to me and I aspire to pick up just a little of your skill (I am a student from your basic class a few years ago). Thank you for all of your inspiration

First of all, I went and watched your glitter video, and I seriously hurt my sides laughing! The hardhat, mask (pre-Covid!), and gloves were especially funny in light of the fact you were wearing a t-shirt with a figure running with scissors—you are TOO funny! Secondly, these are seriously ahhh-mazing cards, Sandy! I absolutely love them all! You are such a freaking genius and uber talented woman! Thank you SO much for sharing! <3

Love all the detail you added to the dies! And welcome to the dark side of all things sparkly! 🙂 Might I recommend a swiffer duster sheet on hand along with your vaccum for loose glitter? Love all the sparkle!
