I’m beginning a watercolor flowers series as I prepare for a trip to Europe next month…soooo excited! But I seriously need to work up my watercolor skills. I’m also trying to play with small watercolor sets to figure out which to take with me!

Video
I love the idea of loose watercolor but have little experience in achieving it – but I won’t let that stop me! Practice makes perfect right? In the video, I’ll show you where to place pencil lines for the petals.
Watercolor flowers can be painted for cards – or for art on your wall! This one ended up on a card but would also have made a lovely gift if it were framed. Okay, well, maybe I have a lot of learning to do!

Alternate stencils
The Sun Catcher is still available at Penny Black but there are also lots more stencils out there that would be great for a technique like this:

Wonderful watercoloring and makes me want to give it a try.
One suggestion for the video is soften the music or omit it completely , it was distracting from the beautiful work you were doing.
I always love everything you do This video was awesome and inspiring.
Beautiful card and an amazing video!
Love watching you create your magic and Love your new site. GO Sandi!!!!
Wow this is amazing work! I’ve always been fascinated with watercoloring, but not brave enough to try it yet. Your video; however, makes me want to sit down and break out the supplies! Thanks for sharing!
Love love love it. Thank you very much for sharing your projects.
Yes, yes, yes…more please. I adore your Copic videos but these water coloring tips are so helpful. Keep them coming.
I am very interested in seeing your flower series. Loved watching you create with watercolor – just beautiful. Looking forward to next Friday!
Just watched this video and loved it! What a great way to use stencils and your watercoloring is fantastic!
Beautiful card. Love the look of the watercolor.
love the watercolor! must have those! thanks for sharing.
Have not even watched the video yet and I love it. You are such an inspiration. Thanks for sharing you gift!
Thanks Sandy. I would love to see this rendered in Copics as well.
Please continue watercoloring. Lovenit.
Beautiful card. Love that you used a stencil and how you made the flower come to life. Looking forward to seeing more. TFS
Just lovely, Sandy! Hope you will continue to do more watercolor in real time~ especially flowers! It will be such fun to follow along (with a few pauses to catch up). What could be lovelier than flowers in winter? So excited about your travels in Europe!! ♡
Wonderful card! I have a set of the Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolors that I just started using and I’m totally hooked! Please keep the series going and I would love to see a comparison between different brands of water colors too! I know there is a company called Peerless that has water colors on little pieces of paper but I have never tried those. Anyway, loved the card and just love how you make things come alive.
Love this stencil…love what you’ve done with it, more. Another medium mastered by Ms. Allnock.
Would love for you to continue with the water color flowers. You do such a beautiful job explaining the why and how. Not only are you a wonderful artist but you are a great teacher as well. TFS
I can not tell you how excited I am each morning when I check my email and see something from you! I just love your videos and your upbeat attitude. thank you for sharing your talents with all of us! 🙂
Wow wow wow – as always… you start with a white paper and in the end there is MAGIC !!!
I love your work!!!
Yes! Absolutely continue this series. Your painting is so much more vibrant than most watercolor demos! It was great seeing your skills used in a different medium. All that Copic coloring has given you an unusual slant on coloring overall.
Gorgeous watercolor poppy. I really appreciate the real time video. That makes it so much easier to see what you’re doing and learn from it. I would love for you to continue this series.
Stunning poppies, Sandy! I swear, I could watch you color all day long – doesn’t matter if it’s Copics or watercolors, you’re amazing! ♥
I absolutely love the look of watercolor, but can’t get my attempts to come out even marginally acceptable, so I look forward to this series.
Great card. I will watch anything you post, however, I’m not a big flower person I would rather see more animals.
Beautiful! Thanks for doing this series. I am new to watercoloring.
Thanks for leaving this in real time – I’ll never be able to keep up with you, but I can stop & go, and limp along behind you! Love the free look of this – you inspire always!
I AM SURE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE—GO FOR IT. I DO WANT TO FOLLOW ON WITH YOU. LOVE THE CONTRAST BETWEN THE RED AND BLUE
You did a beautiful job on that Watercolor painting! I’d love to see more videos like this! Thanks for sharing. :o)
