Value practice: pen & ink

June 22, 2020 by Sandy Allnock 6 Comments [featured_image}

When you get stuck on a project – take on something different! I was in watercolor land for a while and struggled … so I picked up a pen and worked on some drawing. I went for a whimsical subject, and got in some value practice with pen and ink!

Supplies for this project are linked at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links may be used at no cost to you.

My Visconti Mirage is the pen used here – but I have some other less expensive options in my big Fountain Pen post HERE.

Values are the shades of lights and darks that define an object – and they’re what make a piece of art “sing,” in my book!

    Oh my! That’s spectacular. It was wonderful watching a whole cliff side town just appear from a blank piece of paper. You are amazing! Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us.

    What a fanciful tiny village clinging to the side of a cliff! I was mesmerized watching it come to life. I am never (or at least rarely) disappointed with any media or subject that you choose. I’ll be watching for a long, long time!

    A very different sort of project – and a different look to your website today! I guess the summer solstice must’ve turned everything around. I like it all – very clean, like a new start – now that lots of us are being allowed to get out of the house more. I would love to see occasional vids like this one, with different media, and just listening to you talk about stuff. But don’t stop the “regular ones”. I’m pretty sure they keep me sane!
