Unboxing and swatching art mediums (GIVEAWAY!)

April 7, 2021 by Sandy Allnock 360 Comments Filed Under: Watercolor

It’s your lucky day – giveaway day! First – let me show you some fun with color – swatching out the watercolor and watercolor pencil sets that Altenew sent me in advance of the bloghop coming up on the 11th!

Supplies for this project are linked at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links may be used at no cost to you.

Video

The watercolor pencils are pretty awesome; they melt SO WELL. I wasn’t expecting that! It usually takes a high end pencil to do that, but Altenew nailed it. Plus they’re woodless – meaning the whole “stick” is pigment, not wood with a thin bit of lead in the middle! If only these were in “my” colors…..but I know for lots of you, bright is the only way to go!

Similarly – the watercolors are a little bright for me. I’m much more into neutrals and transparency, but these are pretty sweet for crafters wanting some beautiful splashes of rainbow color!

Giveaway

Since I like it when art supplies go to good homes….I’m giving these away! Here’s how to enter to win:

  1. Subscribe to my blog (link is at the end of this post). Or tell me if you’re already subbed. Please don’t unsub til after the winner announcement…I have a ton of prizes that never get claimed!
  2. Subscribe to my YT or tell me if you’ve already subbed.
  3. Leave a comment by midnight on Monday the 12th telling me which of the two sets you’re more interested in trying out! If you already own both, leave a comment anyway and I’ll pick a random winner to get a card from me!

Random.org will pick two lucky winners and I’ll announce the names in my Wednesday post! Good luck!

Supplies

Some product may be provided by manufacturers for review and use. Compensated affiliate links may be linked at no cost to you, but this video was not sponsored or requested by any manufacturer. I’m just starting to dip my toes into the world of colored pencils, watercolors, and watercolor pencils. discovered Bible Art Journaling and my new journaling Bible arrived 2 weeks ago. I wasn’t sure how to get started. I found a couple of your YouTube videos and loved your teaching style so I signed up for both your Bible Journaling and Colored Pencil jumpstart courses. I’ve completed 8-9 of the BJ classes. Once I complete all of them, I’ll begin the colored pencils course. I don’t have either of these products and would be happy with either one. However, if you feel one is better suited to a Bible Art Journaling newbie, that would be my first pick. Thank you for sharing your gifts and talents with us!
    God Bless,
    Alison

Watching you paint is very enjoyable and relaxing, even if it’s just swatches (although I absolutely love your fine art compositions especially). I wouldn’t mind trying out the pan paints…

Hey Sandy! I am a Copic lover and have followed you for a very long time for what you teach me! Lately, I have started to combine Pencils with Copics and now I am thinking about mixing watercolor pencils with my Copics… I would love to try the woodless pencils as that is something I have never used. Thank you for your generosity!

Hard to choose but as youve inspired me to get mostly DS watercolours I’ve added to a palette, I’d love to try the pencils. I avoid direct to paper use of them because they don’t blend that well but since these do, I’d love to try them.

    Sandy,
I am an art teacher in a High School. I use watercolor pencil lead to make watercolor spray bottles. I use the watercolor pencil lead spray as an under painting for teaching watercolor paintings. The brand that I was using, they discontinued so I am looking for a new watercolor pencil. I would love to try those with my students and spray bottles. I think I could get several spray bottles with one pencils.

I am an art teacher and I use the lead of watercolor pencils for my under painting. So I am looking for a new brand of watercolor pencils that I can dissolve in my spray bottles. I think that I could get several bottles of spray with the pencil lead. I use this method with my high school students.
