I’ve done a few of these design-related videos from time to time and you guys seem to like them….so today I’ll talk a little about focal points – but this time with *light*….yes your lighting can direct the eye to where you want it to! Light can make your scene more interesting, and doesn’t always require that the rest of the image be shaded “properly” – it can be just the way you set up the background.

Hope that was helpful – and especially my students in the Autumn Scenes, City Sidewalks, and Winter Wonderland classes will recognize some of the scenes and be able to use these ideas to expand on their own scenes on cards!

Gorgeous scenes and thank you for all the wonderful instructions you give us!
These are gorgeous! Now I am really rethinking taking at least one of the mini courses (fall). Just looked at the marker list and only have a handful of the suggested markers, so I’m going to sit down w/ my hex-chart and see how many I can sub & how many I’m going to have to go buy.
Special request- this may be too complicated but, could you do another one like the church & houses, but along with the back lighting like you’ve got, also show the lighting if a couple of the windows were lit also, and how it would affect the color of the buildings? How do you determine how “strong” a light source is?
Oh my gosh, gorgeous cards. I will be coming back to watch your video on how to create this background. These are stunning!
Amazing cards, I love the polar bear.
Your cards are truly amazing! I enjoy seeing an artist at work.
Beautiful cards! I do wish you had shown how you make on of them, but still pretty! I have been trying to figure out how you made the trees.
They’re taught in classes, so it’s not fair to students that everyone else would get to see it without being in class.
That’s makes 4 absolutely beautiful cards ! And thanks a lot for the helpful video.
Thanks for sharing such a great idea! Your cards are stunning

I do love sunny studios, I was very happy to “discover” them for the first time a few months ago. I’m working my way through a few stamp sets already.
I absolutely LOVE all of your cards. I’d be hard pressed to choose a favorite (I love critters), but I’d have to say the lit up Church card with all the lovely colors in the background, just spectacular!!

Beautiful examples of light sources. Any way to get the copic colors you used? Probably not as I know you pick up many. Just asking. . . .
