Two favorite art things colliding in July? SURE! #WorldWatercolorMonth, meet Ellen Hutson’s SUMMER OF STAMPING! All month long, on Mondays, a new little release – and a whole WEEK of inspiring ideas using them!
There’s a hop over on Ellen’s blog, but don’t leave yet coz you don’t want to miss mine (I’m not in the hop but still wanted to make some fun cards!) The new stamps are a collaboration with Ellen and Lawn Fawn – a limited release stamp and die set called Smore the Merrier!

My ‘nod’ to watercolor (since it’s WWCM!) is to add a lake to the scene. Watch how the color of the water changes as the colors AROUND it change. View on YouTube.
The marker selection for this card scene is remarkably small!
The hedgehog with the s’more, colored in the video….so dang CUTE! I hope some of the tips helped you – whether just creating the oval of light, the sky in the distance, or the white gel pen to make the fire look realistic!
An earlier version (thanks camera for eating it! ha!) has the hedgie playing his guitar…quite the talented guy! You can see the difference a few other colors can make ….don’t be afraid to use the colors YOU have and not rely only on mine:
And then of course you can give the critters buddies around the campfire, and add other scene elements. Here I created silhouettes of grasses and branches to nestle them in!
Later today I’ll be posting a speed video of this colored pencil versino on Instagram and Facebook, so be sure to pop over this evening during your browsing time! A few trees and a susnet make for a fun scene too!
