I wanted to challenge myself to use some colors I might normally not use – so I picked names with island terms in them. Crazy huh? While this wasn’t my most spectacular color combo, it felt good to get out of my comfort zone and do something a little on the silly side in my color choices.

Do you call your pencils by their names? Or like I do, do you just use the numbers? I find the numbers easier to read at the least. ha! #oldeyes

And after my whining about the tree – I pretty much love how it came out after adding the Sand!

I love this little elephant on his private beach Sandy and your colour picking by name came out beautiful.
You were talking about the French grey and that made me think of when I opent my wooden box of Polychromos pencils for the first time, I wondered about the huge amount of grey pencils, 13 different ones. But know, quite a few years later, I can say I’m so happy with them I have used them all.
I don’t know if I would try this, I don’t know all the names of my pencils and usually pick them by the shade I need, what I do experiment with is the colour I use in the nooks and crannies. I always have a piece of scrap paper besides me to try a colour.
Thank you so much for sharing, stay safe and have a wonderful day.
The technique you used for where the beach meets the water is terrific! The result is so realistic! I remember you did a flamingo standing in shallow water that way, too. I am always amazed by what your eyes see that I don’t notice. Maybe I need a pair of special “artist” glasses that help me to see shadows and textures. Once you point it out, I understand! You are AMAZING! Thanks for the great instructions!
What a fun idea!!!
I use number for my Copic markers, and color names for my pencils. It would take me forever to locate a pencil if I only had a number since I am so used to my system.
