As soon as I saw the pretty little layering die set, I knew I needed to paint a beautiful poinsettia Christmas Card, and with a special color that you might like: Cascade Green!

You may know I have a palette that I work with — I updated it at the start of 2019, so that I could use some consistent colors that you could follow along with. I’m not into trying to make you feel you need to constantly buy new colors, and I also want to really use the ones I have enough to know what I do and don’t use regularly!

For this project I got out a tube that hasn’t seen much love; I was at a store event and the “Christmas tree green” tube was out to play with. It was interesting in how it broke out into other colors and I was fascinated! (Turned off by the stink of it, some bad form of mint?) I was then told the color is the same as Cascade Green so I of course had to pick up a tube.

When I pull out a specialty color like this, though, I’ve stopped putting them all in half pans and filling yet more palettes. But I just squeeze a little out on a tile, and play! No commitment to “keeping” that color in my palette, but I can try it here and there. So I just keep all my paints in a big box and only have a couple palettes set up. (More on that in the near future.)

The layering on this pretty card just made my lil heart happy. I might not be as happy when I need to mail it but….boy do I love some pretty dimension!

In the video I promised to show you my little painting with Cascade green…..this was a little quickie but it was fun watching the colors break out in blues and greens – I made it into a sweet little meme:
