Make an elegant wax seal card embellishment

May 19, 2021 by Sandy Allnock 6 Comments Filed Under: Simply Stamping

I promised I’d be making some cards with wax seals…so here’s the first one! The good folks at Trinity blessed me with some treats from the new release….so here’s one of the stamp sets and two of the die sets…..with a seal for an embellishment!

Supplies for this project are linked at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links may be used at no cost to you.

In the project I’ll show you the cardmaking part, then do a test of some golds and talk about the different types of wax I’ve tried thus far – then add seals to the two cards!

Video

Watch the video below or click HERE to go see it on YouTube.

These cards are so pretty whether they have a seal or not! I kept them as flat as I could since I’d have a nice big juicy stamp on it – that’ll help keep postage to a minimim. (Next video about wax seals will have the results of a test I’ve been running on seals and the postal system.)

For the record – I found (happily!) some very very old envelopes in StampinUp! packaging that are perfect for the mini slimline cards! They do NOT fit in an A2, if you’re wondering. Just a little too long. But Trinity makes a slimline envelope die!

The Gold Rich Superfine WOW powder matches the Artisaire gold pretty perfectly 🙂

Shiny shiny shiny!

Gorgeous cards Sandy, great die, the Window Panel die.
I loved to see how you compared the wax. I never used it although I love the look of it.
When you said that you put the wax seal on the second card and did it on the wrong place I thought immediately perhaps you can make a seal on a craft sheet . Pull it of when it’s cold and glue it on the right place. Second benefit if the seal isn’t quite right , you can pul it from the craft sheet and melt it again.
Thank you so much for sharing, stay safe and have a wonderful Sunday.

I could do that, and some do. But it doesn’t end up “looking” right to me. The adhesive has to be exactly that shape and size, or the edges peel up, and if you put too much you get adhesive showing. It’s better to just pour the wax directly 🙂 I’ll get the hang of it sometime – ha!

Thank you so much for this video and test run. I purchased a couple of sets (great price at Tuesday Morning), but I haven’t tried them yet. I am so glad I watched your video! I love wax seals!

I was looking at the size of the flame on your tea light when you said the wax wasn’t melting very fast and it seemed to be lower than at other times. Beautiful card design! Great use of your seals.

Sandy, Love your video. I’m a HUGE wax seal fanatic. A couple of fun things to also try. 1. You can stamp your wax stamp into some Versamark embossing ink and you will find your wax stamp will release from your wax a bit easier for those more detailed stamp heads. 2. You can also dip your stamp into embossing ink and then into some Perfect Pearls before you stamp into your wax to give your image a different affect. 3. I found for a cheaper option to cut up Crayola Crayons and inexpensive glue sticks to make your own wax. (Cut into 1/4” pieces). Melt 4 pieces glue sticks to 2 pieces crayons. Crayola makes a Pearl set that is very pretty. 4. If your wax gets bubbles in it, it’s too hot. 5. You don’t want to pour on to wax paper as it sticks, but either a Ranger craft mat or even parchment paper works great. A left over piece of smooth glossy tile or granite is great as the stone is cool and sets the seals quickly. 6. Stamp onto non stick surface and they come off in one piece. Then add some double sided adhesive tape to create stickers to mass produce and add as embellishments for easy alignment.
