Hey everyone! Hope you’re ready for some watercolor – I have a double tutorial for you today, with one card that’s easy, and one for those who have some experience with watercolor.
Supplies for this project are linked at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links may be used at no cost to you.
The stamp set is by Penny Black – Hugs and Cuddles – and it has a fox in it, so you know I needed to buy it and color it! heehee. I do have a thing for foxes!
The first card is cheerful and bright – and so simple! The second uses negative painting – painting around objects to define them. I picked more muted colors for the second….let’s get started!
Fill the background area with water first – wet, not puddly, and if it’s too puddly wait for it to be just shiny. Then drop in whatever colors you want to use. I chose New Gamboge and Quinacridone Rose. Then when it’s dry, paint the fox – and add leaves with any leftover colors!
Negative painting is done in layers, or passes. Allover color first, then subsequent layers that carve out the negative shapes behind leaves! Yellow Ochre and Paynes Blue Gray are used for this card exclusively.
The little hedgehog has a section in the background with a lighter blue – and the spaces between used negative painting to make those lighter blues pop from them.
This little happy fox has a simple watercolor background painted lightly first around the outside – then the flowers and leaves were painted (so those colors don’t end up dragged out into the background.)
