One way to practice creating strong contrast without having to think about color at the same time is to do a monochrome card. Pick a color with a wiiiiiiide variance from very very light to very very dark!

I chose to use the warm greys – going from a light light to a dark dark!

Any scene could be accomplished with this technique – any of the ones in my classes! Pick a lesson you struggled with, and try it in one hue to see if that helps you see the contrast better.

Wow, just wow Sandy.
What you can do with a few grey markers.
Totally love what you have created.
Thank you so much for sharing, stay safe and have a wonderful day.
This is so mood-y and atmospheric! Love it!
Like the prehistoric “feeling” of this scene. Have never seen the characters drawn this way. Simple. Love it!
Great idea! This looks like fun – and for some reason, I’m thinking “Halloween” – maybe since colors are a little harder to choose for a night scene… I’m glad to see the different card sizes being used this past year or two – scenes like this just wouldn’t work on an A2 card.
This may work on an A2 but with a lot less of an epic feel to it.
