How to Color Peacocks, Flamingos, Hummingbirds

July 3, 2020 by Sandy Allnock 95 Comments Filed Under: Copic Intermediate

It’s the start of a holiday weekend in my country….though with so many states closing back down because of the rampant virus spread and fireworks canceled so people will stay home, I’m not sure just how much of a celebration it’ll be! So I’m making my OWN party right here!

Supplies for this project are linked at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links may be used at no cost to you.

Video

Watch the video below or click to view on YouTube.

For Hummingbird Delight I looked up hummingbirds on Google and followed the colors in one of the photos. I’d love to see ones that you make so be sure to tag me so I can see which bird you picked! The no-line ink in the background did a great job of making a subtle background that lets the bird shine through.

Hey Florida! I know you love your Tickled Pink Flamingo birds, and this one is the easier one to color of the three due to the simplicity of the bird’s structure itself.

Hope Sings Peacock – wearing a monacle! ha! Oh the thoughts I had while coloring it. Is that a handle or a chain drawn in the stamp? How is it held in place? Is the bird holding it on with feather pressure around the glass? Or does this bird have opposable thumbs to hold onto a handle!? A girl needs to know!

The beautiful humming bird is my absolute favorite, but the regal peacock makes me smile! Getting out for a drive in my northwest mountains and stopping to hike is a great social distancing while enjoying God’s beautiful creation is a wonderful way to celebrate!

I adore birds, & yours are gorgeous! If I really had to pick one … that’s not easy … I would choose the hummingbird. Or maybe the peacock. Or …

I loved the flamingo!! The colors are so exciting! I am so becoming a clumsy flamingo, since for the next 3 months, I am non weight barring, since I broke my ankle in three places last Sunday, June 28.

The best social distancing, activity was to do zoom with my grandchildren! I was suppose to be going to the beach with them in a cabin, it was the safest way I could see them!

Lol! I love your overthinking with the peacock (my fav). The chain is usually attached to the pocket of a waist coat and I’m sure he must be wearing a snazzy one! Something fun that my friends and I have been doing via FaceTime (although not holiday related you could make it so), is we each make a list of items that we are all likely to own. One person reads from their list and the others run to find the item. The person who finds it quickest gets the point. We take it in turns and the person with the most points is the winner. Our lists are craft items eg: copic Y13 but you could do anything!

I liked the Flamingo the best.
For social distance activity we did sparklers on the front porch and watched neighbors do fireworks up on our circle. We live on a cul-de-sac.

I enjoyed watching your coloring all these birds very much. I don’t color much for I only have just a few markers but you gave me ideas to help me along. CCC hit it out of the park with these 3 bird stamps. I did order and can’t wait to get at them. Thanks Sandy I so enjoy your channel!

I enjoy seeing you color in all different mediums. You’re truly a master of the art I’m learning a lot and I’ve come a long way. I don’t think I’ll ever be as good at using colored pencils. My favorite of the 3 card today is the hummingbird. The depth of color is so realistic! I would never have imagined layering it as you did. As far as safe social distancing for a holiday, my preference is videoconferencing with FaceTime, Skype, Twitch etc. FaceTime is easiest for me. I take care of my elderly parents who live 2 hours away so for me there’s no safer option. If I had young kids, I’d still do videoconferencing. It would be no different than if we were hundreds or thousands of miles apart, Better to see each other alive and healthy than the alternative, I’ve already gotten used to it and it was never very painful. Happy Independence Day! When the dust settles were really going to visit those landmarks that we we’ve planning to see for so many years like Gettysburg, Ellis Island and Valley Forge.

All of the birds are beautiful, but I really love the hummingbird. Hummingbirds remind me how beautiful and yet just how fragile life can be. They are truly beautiful creatures and they bring so much joy to those who enjoy watching them. I think mailing cards to friends would spread joy both for the card creator and the recipient. You could also include an extra card for them to send to someone else. Oh, what joy!

ALL the birds were breathtakingly beautiful, but I love the flamingo. I’ve seen them IRL (in real life) and some are that bright pink. I think it has to do with what they eat…

We are staying home for the holiday. Not even sure whether our town is planning to hold the usual fireworks display. Too many people (and risk) for this particular year. Stay safe and happy.

Happy 4th of July Sandy! Your hummingbird coloring is outstanding, along with the peacock and flamingo, they are favorite bird to watch as they are the jewels of the sky.
Apart from sitting six feet apart in the backyard, games like corn hole toss, badminton, and volleyball are a great way to have fun and social distance one’s self.

You are so talented. I absolutely love the contrast that you have with your copic coloring. It makes me be more adventurous in my color choices. I just discovered the Colorado Craft stamps last month and immediately thought of you! Look forward to seeing what you do with each of their releases. I was trying to resist the birds from this last release but now I must take the plunge. Thank you for the inspiration.

      For the giveaway questions…
It is hard to pick a favorite but i think the colors in the hummingbird perhaps make that my number one.

For social distancing this fourth that is a good question…I think making use of the WHOLE backyard for our BBQ. Setting up a circle of friends that are all 6 feet apart.

I love all three but the hummingbird is my favorite.

Best social distancing thing I can think of is watching Hamilton and then discussing it via text. Sharing with my great niece in another town, my cousin in another state and a good friend in another city.

I am going to my best friends for a picnic, nothing major just “family” getting together for food and being together. Its been to long!

I love Hope Sings Peacock because I love Peacocks… it’s usually the tail feathers but this one won me over with that fun monocle. I love it!

We’re older, so our favourite thing to do is watch a movie marathon, while we munch on vegetables and fruits with dips.

(By the way, when I click on the Peacock link, I get the Flamingo. I did find the Peacock though. It’s under the Flamingo link.)
