I’m revisiting a project from a few years ago in hopes it’ll ring in spring!?! I’m ready for it! The Tulip Basket Sketches printable set has not only the sketches to print on toned paper – but a big ol’ pdf with tons of step by step info on how to create the color tulips. But today – I’ll revisit in black and white, to create a piece for my bedroom wall.

Black and white tulips
While we do love the color of spring tulips….there’s something so simple and pure in a black and white drawing. These will be framed for my bedroom where all the art is black and white!
Colored pencil tulips
These were created in 2023 – and are just as lovely now as they were then! See the video below for how these are created – use the technique for your own drawings, or go get the Tulip Basket Sketches Printable Set and create these drawings.

Bring on spring!
If we create a boatload of spring tulip art, that’ll covince Mother Nature to come see us, right? 🙂 Easter is April 20 so we have some time but gosh I’d love some warm weather soon!

Hi Sandy,
I love these tulips. I have the pdf and a light gray Mi-Tientes pastel paper that I’m printing on but the black printing is very light. I have tried adjusting the darkness on my printer but it’s still a little light. Did you trace the drawing in the black pastel pencil first? I have colored the tulips in the colored pencils and I had the same problem with the printing on the light gray paper. Old eyes, I guess… I actually won one of your tulip paintings which I love. Thanks for sharing all of your beautiful art with us.
If your printer is accurate you could try running the same print through the printer twice? Or print it on white where you can see it and go over the lines, then trace on to another colored paper. The texture (both visual and physical) can make a difference in how much it shows up. I did have some trouble seeing it myself, but that’s mostly my older eyes too 🙂
So lovely! Just beautiful for Lent!
Is the paper pastelmat?
Thank you so much for sharing!
Not Pastelmat – it’s some kind of linen drawing paper. 🙂 I really wish more papers had watermarks so I could remember what I bought years ago!
