I don’t know if you heard….but Carly Tee Minner, who is an awesome card designer (and a teacher in my Flower Power 2020 class!) and organizer-of-all-things-creative at Ellen Hutson – Carly is having a baby boy soon! I’m so excited for her I could just SQUEAL! There’s a little hop today to celebrate the big news. While I don’t have a video – I do have a card and some explanation of what I did!

Her colors for her little baby’s room are grey and white.

First, I did the Copic airbrushing. Even before stamping! I knew I wanted to do the rays in the background – an idea from the Storybook Scenes class (which is on sale still right now). I airbrushed an overall grey first, getting darker toward the edges. Then used washi tape to create the graduated stripes with another layer of grey airbrushing.. The land was airbrushed after placing a torn paper over the sky to protect it, then adding some grass strokes with a marker.

Next I stamped the penguin from Arctic Pals set, and then the balloons from Good Times, and the sentiment from Totally Random Sayings Vol. 3. The penguin and balloons were stamped on top of the grey – so the balloons were colored first with colorless blender to lighten them, then with yellow. The penguin was fussy-cut and glued on (just the body portion so I didn’t have to cut out feetses and wings!) I drew the little box with a pen.

Heads up: the Arctic Pals set is about out, and it’s old enough I’m going to make an educated guess it may not get reordered. If you ever wanted this penguin, pick it up now. I wuv him.

As is often the case with my cards, I topped it off with just s little Glossy Accents, on the balloons!

Note about airbrushing

If you’re on the fence about Copic airbrush, you may want to get on it – rumor has it the ABS3 air grip may be discontinued (I’m hoping not! Maybe it’s a bad rumor and they’re just re-designing it?) You’ll need a compressor (the air cans don’t last long enough to be worth it) — get this one or something similar from Harbor Freight (check towns near you if you’re in America, they’re all over the place). You will likely also need a better cord than the curly one that comes with it – I recommend a nice long one, (you can likely get it at Harbor Freight too) then you can put the compressor under a desk to keep the noise down (though you have to turn it on via the button so don’t bury it too far!).
