Comparing Copic Greys

May 27, 2020 by Sandy Allnock 7 Comments Filed Under: Copic Beginner

There are four different Copic greys – what the heck is the difference? Do I need them all? The short and blessedly happy answer: no!

10/1/2020 NOTE: Copic did NOT stopping making refill inks – they’ve now become much more available.

Supplies for this project are linked at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links may be used at no cost to you.

On page 2 in the Copic Hex chart (the colored version that comes with the blank pdf)….you may or may not be able to see the visual color differences well, but hopefully in this video you’ll get a clear enough view to make your decisions on what’s needed.

View on YouTube.

This dust bunny has all four greys in it….and if you just look at the image quickly, the body looks to be about the same basic grey.

The toners and neutrals are pretty close if you arent analyzing it closely.

In the second card, you can visually see the coolness of the bunny compared to the warmth of the bed.

Thanks for this video Sandy … I wish I hadn’t bought any Ts or Ns now – I would have been better saving my money for a fuller C and W collection!! Really great cards too! I love it when you make your own backgrounds!!

Thank you for illustrating the differences in all the different grays and how they can ALL be used on the same image. I loved how you incorporated the “bloops” on the dust bunny. I am usually not that creative. I usually just cover them with a sticker or cut out image. Thank you for sharing and educating us.

Loved both cards and would like to know what the last Copic you used was. It looked like white?

I used a colorless blender then a white gel pen.

Great video, I loved watching it and so did my 14 year old son who is now pulling out his grey Crayola colored pencil to decide if it is a W, C, T or N. Thank you and have a great day

I always wondered what the N and T colors were (even though my curiosity had never made me Google it). Love both cards!
