I’ve been on a YT sabbatical, believe it or not – LOL! I know, I know. A sabbatical means no one hears from you. But for me it just means you hear from me less. And with things that I feel like doing rather than things I feel like teaching. Today…I just felt like some loose painting.
I used my Daniel Smith Watercolors and size 8 and 12 round Silver Brushes on a block of Saunders Waterford cold press. Photo is based on a photo by Shirleygen at PMP-art.com ; if you’re looking for photos to inspire you that are legal to use, sign up for a free membership there!
Now at Society6
I’ve added some watercolors….soon you should see everything under the “new” section. For some reason they take a little while to populate so hopefully by morning they’ll be at the top, along with some other new things! But here’s a preview:

Guest video
Today is my guest post over at MFT – using purples for shadows on yellow flowers! My Copic Jumpstart students have seen this, but watching the impact on a flower, well – I hope you’ll enjoy it!
WARNING: This video is a bit different than my usual. It includes a story in the voiceover that might not be good for your little ones; if it makes you uncomfortable, just turn off the sound and watch with Christmas music for a more cheerful version.
The word “cardinal” is from the Latin cardo, meaning hinge. Something that has cardinal qualities is so important that it functions as a keystone or axle; other things hinge around it. Our difficult life experiences, as well as the positive ones, can be the anchors around which God develops our character. They don’t define us, but can instill deep compassion in us for the hardships of others.
An experience from decades ago contributed to shape who I am; it’s not one I’ve shared with anyone until very recently. In today’s video, I share that story as a way to encourage others who have been through traumatic experiences, that you might know you are not alone.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”-2 Corinthians 1:3-4

If you need assistance coping, please reach out to someone. Especially during the holidays – these can be a rough few weeks ahead. There are many who care…..I’ve listed just a few hotlines:
If you don’t have anyone to talk to and none of these suggestions look good to you, you can email your story to the email address I set up. You’ll receive an automated reply from me.
The bloghop and prizes
Now hop along and go see what everyone else is making today:
My painting is now at Society 6, and any proceeds are being donated to RAINN. I’m hoping to add some more of my recent work to the site over the weekend- let me know if there’s something in particular you’ve wanted prints of and if I still have it here I’ll photograph and add it. Because Christmas is coming! The original is framed and will be hanging at my church in the next few weeks.
Ellen Hutson always creates a beautiful series of Christmas Tags with a feminine twist! This year I’m paired up with the amazing Carissa Wiley and I’m going to guess I’ll be outglittered by her sparkly self…she is SO talented! (Go see her tag here!)
Our inspiration picture is this one: gotta LOVE all the black and white with a pop of green, all with kraft underlying it. And detailed ribbons and stitching!

I made a quick lil video for my tag – and giftwrap! Watch the video below or click HERE to see it in HD on YouTube.
Aren’t these the sweetest lil penguins ever!?!? Watch my Instagram for more of them in coming weeks – I won’t be making lots of videos or doing blog posts through December, but I’ll be sharing the rest of my Christmas cards with crazy backgrounds on IG and Fb!
The giftwrap is so super easy….just watercolor on kraft!
And for those who are in the Clearly Copic Glass class.…this is a crazy version of the candy jar lesson!

I’ve been thinking about solid stamps for a while now – and finally found one to try my idea. It might just change the way you look at silhouette stamps!

Isn’t it pretty in it’s design simplicity? Just a little layered cardstock sets it off perfectly.

Happy Anniversary to Ellen Hutson and her crew! One more post this week to celebrate the achievement…it’s not easy to keep a business open in the marketplace today, and to do it with honor and integrity! I’m so proud to be associated with them – and I know many of you have become faithful customers too….yay for great customer service, eh?
Anyway – I’m trying a technique I’ve used a few times before – on buttercups and poppies – and now on holly!
I think I’ll be painting lots of flowers this way….so loose and fun!

This is “nativity week”! I noticed I had 2 nativity type of scenes scheduled, and decided to add 2 more and fill up the week (except for Thanksgiving!) with more. So…..today the Shepherds watching their flocks by night are getting a little attention!
This is the silliest of the series – penguins shepherding polar bears! A friend of mine was actually kinda scared for the penguins, since she saw the polar bears not as the “flock” but as menacing. Eeep! Well…..there ya go, right?.
Aren’t they the cutest little shepherds ever!??!! I don’t think their flock is menacing at all! heehee!
