Motion: Snow Spray on a Copic card

Motion: Snow Spray on a Copic card

It’s day one of my Holiday Scene Week series for 2019! The onslaught of Christmas videos is en route, and I try to get a few out there at the start to get you rolling on your coloring for the year; I know it feels early as it’s not even November, but to give you time to decide on stamps to use and get them, ship them, make cards, color, send them out – the time is a-tickin’!

Colors used…

The dimensional snow looks pretty realistic – just make sure it’s thick enough not to splooge around, and not wet enough to curdle your cardstock.

The twine here is an old one by May Arts…I had to glue it down as its slippery, and the ends don’t stay together, so I wouldn’t recommend it, but – I have a spool I’m determined to use up this winter. LOL!

Drawing the stable in Bethlehem in Copics

Drawing the stable in Bethlehem in Copics

I almost made it in time for Christmas in July! I did get two cards done this month, I think….I’m so jealous of those who get them done all year long! But alas….I’m at least getting a few done! And I stamped more of these so I can sit and color on the sofa for a while and make more beautiful scenes like this one with Bethlehem’s Light by the Colorado Craft Company.

Copic colors used on this card….

Embossing on top of rich Copic color can be truly gorgeous – and it still makes for a nice flat card!

Don’t forget to tickle the inside of a card with some sparkle! Got to love Wow’s Gold Rich powder!!

While I created my beautiful backgrounds with a Copic airbrush, YOU can also do this with your own mediums! Try with distress inks…watercolor, powdered pencil – whatever you have that makes pretty backgrounds! Watch the video below or click HERE to see it in HD on YouTube.

Saturation Lesson with Carol Puppies

Saturation Lesson with Carol Puppies

Hi there! This was originallly a guest post, but years later I’ve copied it over here. 🙂

I’m Sandy Allnock, and I’m excited to bring you a couple cards I made with the brand new Carol Puppies stamp set! I made a tutorial video too, because, well, why not, right?

I get a lot of questions in comments and other places, one of which is why bother thinking about saturation? Just pick a red and go with it, and only worry about the darkness/lightness of the color. Well, I’m about to shed a little light on why it can make a major difference, while coloring two cards together!

Here’s the video…watch it below or click HERE to see it on YouTube.

For the nighttime scene, desaturated colors are great – those are colors where the first of the 2 digits is a HIGH number. Choose those when you’ve got a scene with low light or nighttime. Don’t forget to add snow not just in the sky behind the choir but also in front of them!

For the daytime picture, choose brighter, more saturated colors – with lower numbers as the first digit. These are brighter colors, and will require a little more blending and shading to get them to look rounded, since they’re out in the light. All that shading detail can be seen.

If you’re interested in any of the specific colors used, they’re likely in this handfull…

I hope this is helpful next time you’re trying a daytime or nighttime scene – be sure to tag me on instagram if you try out a new selection of colors after seeing what I created!

Christmas card: Santa flying in winter skies

Christmas card: Santa flying in winter skies

In which Underwater Scenes (kelp) become a wintry scene! It’s also related to a scene in Winter Wonderland…more trees, more drama, more color. You don’t have to take classes, of course, but I do like to let new subscribers know there’s more in-depth teaching available, as well as letting students see a way to apply what they’ve learned.

This little bear is wearing a plaid scarf (because who wouldn’t, if they were a bear in the woods?) and sitting amid the “Misty Mountains” lesson from Autumn Scenes class. I know it’s a tough background but I haven’t seen many people posting this background!

This is a fall-ish version of the winter card, but instead of a road, the black bears are snuggled into a clearing in the forest. And…bird watching. Because bears do that, right?
