Sympathy cards are SO hard to make. They just hurt the heart, even though you know they’re going to ease someone’s pain just a little.
But… I think this stamp I used has taught me my new favorite word. “Agapanthus.” Just say it out loud. “Agapanthus.” Isn’t it wonderful?
On the 1st of each month Technique Tuesday releases a new Greenhouse Society stamp set. They’re sooooo pretty! I’ve started a little collection…and you can check them all out HERE! Or go to the Technique Tuesday website to sign up for a monthly subscription and get them at a discount.
Technique Tuesday sent me Agapanthus, July’s stamp, since they just loved my card with their Hibiscus stamp….and I couldn’t resist. Because they sent me two, one for me and one for you! Read about the giveaway below.
CAS (Clean and Simple) Sympathy Cards: Agapanthus
I decided to stamp the image on Desert Storm; I thought it might be an interesting exploration to try doing flowers on a darker paper – I’ve colored other images on it, but not florals. I also show it on white, so you can see the color comparison between doing so on darker and lighter paper. Very interesting, at least to me – the coloring nerd! Watch the video below, or click HERE to watch in HD on YouTube..
I do like it on the white, but there’s something very unique and quite relazing about the desert storm color!
Which do you prefer – the Desert Storm or the White? Maybe it depends on who it’s for….not really sure! 🙂
Giveaway!
Yes, I have a stamp set to give away! The lovely folks at Technique Tuesday sent me two…one for me and one for you! Use the Raffelcopter below to enter…good luck!

So stunning on the Desert Storm! Beautiful as always Sandy.
I do love the Desert Storm. First time seeing it and know I will be buying some very soon! Your card is lovely. Sadly, I find myself needing more of this type of sentiment (sorry for your loss, etc.) cards, and this very clean simple design is perfect.
I love both of these but the desert storm is a bit more unique and would work for a masculine sympathy card. Lovely coloring as always Sandy!
I have so much colored cardstock with no idea how to use. Thanks.for.the tips!
I really like the differences in the two different cardstocks, and truth be told, I think I like the one done on the desert storm card the most. They both are beautiful, but…..
Simply stunning! I absolutely adore this card. Thanks so much for the video showing it both ways. Love it!
Hugs,
Snoopy 😀
I love both cards, Sandy! The Desert Storm one b/c it’s different, but I’d probably use the white more often. LOVE that stamp!
Absolutely gorgeous!
Gorgeous card and stamp. Thanks to Technique Tuesday for the extra set! Agapanthus is fun to say. My favorite words along those lines are synecdoche and enthymematic. 🙂
Oh wow – those are some serious words! lol
Hi Sandy,
Once again I am in AWE of your talent, LOVE both cards and thanks for the tips!
Cariños,
María Alba
Sandy I love your cards, but I too am more fond of the desert storm version.
I have agapanthus in my yard
Love both of them!
Oh, Sandy, both cards are just gorgeous. I think I lean toward the white cardstock as the colors showcase those beautiful flowers. It is a beautiful stamp and of course, I think you are just an amazing artist. Lots of love!
love both cards but the white seems happier where the desert storm is subdued and better suited for a sympathy card. Need this stamp!
They are both beautiful! I really have no preference. The desert storm color gives it a more subdued feel and white always looks so pretty and makes the other colors used with it so bright and rich.
I love them both, but my favorite is the one on Desert Storm!! I would love to give this a try. Thanks for sharing your talents with us!
Twist my arm! I think I will take another look at Technique Tuesday, botanicals are my favorite to color! Thank you for sharing Desert Storm next to the White, both absolutely lovely!
DELIGHTFUL flowers and cards – LOVE them BOTH Sandy!!!
I am drawn to Desert Storm, it is unusual and so peaceful, will definitely be trying it, THANK YOU for the INSPIRATION 🙂
Sandy-I just had to take a minute to tell you how much I enjoy your videos. I LOVE how you explain the techniques you use. I’ve learned a BUNCH!! Also, you have such a calming voice!! Lol I just wanna grab a pillow and sleep….but you’re too interesting for me to do that!! Lol anyway, just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your teachings. Hugs!!
GORGEOUS cards – I like the look of the desert storm…maybe because it is a different look! Both are lovely!!!
Paper Hugs,
Jan
I think both cards are absolutely gorgeous, the desert storm is more subdued, perfect for sympathy card, but the white I prefer for other things, maybe a happier type feeling with this one. Perfect coloring of these gorgeous flowers!
Both cards draw your eye into them. Very nice.
I loved both cards, especially the desert storm paper. You are such a great teacher of your craft. We are so lucky that you are so willing to share your talent.
WOW .. LOVE THE DESERT STORM…..BUT THE WHITE LOOK NICE TO…..I LIKE THE STAMPA gapanthus …CAN BE USE FOR ALL OCASSION…:) NICEEE <3 <3
Pretty! I love them both; however, for a sympathy card I would choose the white. Your coloring skills are exquisite, as always.
Such a lovely stamp. I’m usually partial to white card stock, but the desert storm works wonderfully with the colors you’ve chosen.
The Desert Storm hands down is my favorite! Love the Agapanthus stamp, and the real flower. 🙂
Both of the cards are beautiful, but it’s amazing how different they are. Granted the desert card had colored pencil added, but it’s striking. You know, intellectually, that the cards stock color will make a difference, but to see them side by side is eye opening. I wanted to thank you for your Faithbook video…I sent the link to a friend it was just what was needed.
Both cards are beautiful, but I love the desert storm for the type of card
OMG! B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L….That’s all I have to say! Both are beautiful, but I love wood color pencil in craft cards.
Both cards are fantastic. I think the Desert Storm works very well as a sympathy card because of the muted feel. Thanks for sharing both, and the chance to win this beautiful stamp.
Both are pretty, but I think I like the desert storm paper the best, it different and lovely. I love floral stamps.
Sandy, I love the stamp. Both colors are great on your card but I love the one done with Desert Storm! Thank you for sharing your talent.
I also love them both. But I am drawn to the Desert Storm version forsome reason. Thanks for sharing!
Sandy you are awesome! Beautiful card! Thank you for all you do to inspire us!
Love this gorgoues card…..purples and lavenders are my favorites! I also LOVE the wonderful stamp set and would be thrilled to have the opportunity to WIN IT!
So pretty like all of your work Sandy! Thanks for sharing, Marianne Billman
Sandy, you are so super talented. Both cards are beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and your tips. How lucky we are to live in the age of the internet and videos and lovely people like you!
I like it on the Desert Storm best; it is warmer feeling like a soft hug.
Love this floral image; I prefer the desert storm card. Embossing with white makes the flower pop. Tried to sign in to enter contest and neither of my emails were accepted; just said need to use a correct email. I was!
Rhododendron used to be my favorite word but now it’s Agapanthus! Love your beautiful card better on the Kraft paper since its a sympathy card but the white is gorgeous, maybe for a birthday it thanks card. I think I am one who stops before I achieve enough depth when I color because you do a lot and really bring stuff to life. I shall work on that.
What beautiful cards. I LOVE how you colored them in. I especially like the one on Desert Sand. The purples are so soft and I really like how you did the highlights with the white pencil.
Beautiful cards. Gorgeous stamp.
Gorgeous stamp and cards. I especially love the soft and muted look of/on the desert storm cardstock.
Sandy, both of these cards are gorgeous, but that first one.. Oh my. I think I actually said “Oh, wow” out loud, when I opened the page and saw it.. haha Thanks so much for taking the time to make a video, and explaining about the pencils, etc.
Gorgeous cards. The flowers look stunning. Just what I needed. One of my children’s teacher died suddenly from a brain tumor leaving 2 small children behind and a sick husband. We are all praying for them. Thank you Sandy
Hi Sandy, How lovely! My favorite colors are the pale blues with a hint of lavender (periwinkle). I really enjoyed seeing how you incorporated the pencils with the Copics. Sure did make the flower petals pop! Now I want to try coloring on the kraft color cardstocks! Big thanks ♥
Both are beautiful and my first inclination was “white” but the softness of the desert storm wins my vote.
The agapanthus card was amazing and I’d love to win the stamp, but though I shared on Facebook, it won’t give me an entry for that, only for my visiting Technique Tuesday.
