Adding Copic Details and a Simple Vignette

January 3, 2020 by Sandy Allnock 8 Comments [featured_image}

Today I’m adding Copic details to a Humpack whale on a rather old stamp set; I love this little whale! There are two in the set along with punny sentiments….be sure to get to the end of this post for a second video from back when the set came out!

Supplies for this project are linked at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links may be used at no cost to you.

I used a very simple collection of colors – mostly greys, but with blues for the undercoat of the whale and different blues for the pale background. The contrast provides the “pop” on this card instead of strong color.

The textures can be created in a variety of ways – marker strokes (pressing hard for thick lines, barely skimming the surface to make thin lines), dots, dotted lines. Don’t forget the colorless blender for both fixing areas and adding extra texture. And oh – that white pen! ha. I wonder if I could use it on every card for the whole year!?

The simpler the image, the more I tend toward a white-on-white look; even though the coloring is detailed, all the white on the colored paper and the card base really set off the whale and draw attention to him!

This bonus video was back from when this stamp set came out, in case you want another way to use the set; you can see the blog post HERE.

    It was so awesome to see how you put in all the texture Sandy and see that whale come from a line image in a looking-so-real image.
    Although I don’t have alcohol markers, I always learn from you when you using Copics, I try to use your tips when I use other mediums.
    Thank you so much for this great tutorial and have a great week.

    Fantastic! I had my doubts when you coloured over his eye but I’ve learned to trust your process and the result is lovely.

    Very beautiful, do like the textures you added. Always find watching you create so relaxing. The answer to your white pen question is yes, I imagine you could manage to get your white pen into every card for a year. Are you up for the challenge ? Happy New Year Sandy x

    Welcome back! I missed you and my morning coffee videos. Projects like this little whale are what keep me sane, I’m sure. Gotta clear my project table off, so I can get some new cards made – and Thank You cards are the first on my list! Thank you for the inspiration – as always!
