Today I’m celebrating the new Ellen Hutson release – I’ve got a fun tutorial along with card samples I’ve created from some other stamps and dies, so settle in with a cup of your fave beverage and scroll through to see all the goodies!
The tutorial shows a technique that I can’t imagine no one has done before but it was a sudden idea I had….so that’s what I’ll demonstrate: how to mask when you’re embossing!

Supplies for this project are linked at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links may be used at no cost to you.

This “masking” technique should work even if it’s not white-on-white embossing, as long as you’re careful…read a couple written tips below the video too! Watch the video below or click HERE to view it on YouTube.
I started by stamping – first two sets of tulips on the right and left, and once they were completely cooled (or excess powder will stick everywhere—don’t ask how I know!), I used a brush to wipe off powder from sections that crossed over the borders of the tulips already stamped there. With white on white it’s easier to see at an angle – with colors you should see the areas you want to remove very clearly.

Colors used to paint with are distress inks – Dried Marigold, Spiced Marmalade, Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry, Shabby Shutters, and Bundled Sage…. basically one lighter color paired with a deeper tone. You could do the same kind of painting with any watercolor medium though!

Finishing the card entailed trimming and then layering with yellow and a pink card base…then diecutting the “Hello” sentiment in pink cardstock from one of the new die sets…and stamping a sentiment from the Mondo Tulips set onto a strip that could be added with dimensional adhesive. I got out a little thread to make a bow around the end of the banner sentiment.

Vienna, my assistant crafter, selected the clear stars for me to use for adding sparkle, too – ha! She took the packet out into the living room, very quietly, and decorated the carpet all over! So I used Glossy Accents to add some to my card.

Another tulip card coming!
On Sunday I’ll be over on Ellen’s blog with this pretty 4-Bar card with the same tulips – look how versatile they are!

Hexagon dies and quilting stamps
Hexagon frame nesting dies? Yes please thank you! I love me some hexagons, and something I love to see paired with them? Hexagonal stamp designs! There’s a whole set of florals in hexagon shapes, and a set of sewing sentiments too. On Sunday this will be a video right here, so stay tuned!

Thank you for sharing!
What a delightful video and card. I love tulips and love using them on cards. This “masking” approach is one that I loved to use and then somehow “forgot” about. Thank you for reminding me. Gotta give this a try again.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Caroline
Just came in from doing yard work all afternoon – what a nice way to relax, letting someone else make the flowers bloom! Love the soft colors, and I’ve already gone to Ellen’s to grab a few of my favorite new stamps & dies – love Julie Ebersole’s “Besties” sayings!
Fun new product I “MUST” have!
One of our cats is good at choosing which restaurant we go to (before Covid). We show him 2 different gift cards and he sniffs or paws the one he wants us to use. Smart, right? He never gets it wrong! 🙂
