Thank you Altenew for making a sweet little pair called Warm Heart ….love me some penguins, PLUS I love realism too! And they’re sized just perfect so I can create all kinds of scenes around them!
The easy version is realistic to what Antarctica looks like – lots of times you can’t tell where the snow ends and sky begins! So a simple blended sky, whether in Copics or inks, is perfect!

But if you’re crazy like me, go find a snowy Antarctica scene on the Googles, and play around with values – darks, midtones, highlights, and bright whites!

Wow Sandy I’m in awe of your second card, making a scene using just markers and no line drawing! I love all the snow/ice/water scenes that you do. I have collected penguins stamps, for decades, harder to find the true to life ones (wildlife enterprises/Coronado Island). This is one of the better images I’ve seen lately. I am only missing 4 New Zealand species and Emperors away from seeing every species (18) of penguins in the wild. If you have other fav images, I’d love to check them out. Thanks for sharing.
Awww, these penguin scenes jumped right on my favorites list. And those icebergs – you make it look effortless. Great cards.
Beautiful cards Sandy
thanks for sharing your wonderful coloring – so inspirational:)
Awesome–thanks for the inspiration!
Love both these cards for such different reasons. Fabulous, as always.
I love these gorgeous penguin cards you created Sandy, the baby is so cute and squishy!! Thanks for sharing your story and inspiring me with your colouring. For some reason I thought they could be at a bowling alley and also in front of the northern lights. Best wishes always x
This looks a great deal like an older Hero Arts stamp…..I need to get it out again. Thanks for the inspiration/
Amazing! I love penguins, too! Unlike you, I actually went to Antarctica and saw gazillions of penguins- Adelie, chinstrap, Gentoo, and Chinstrap. They are fantastic, and you captured these two beautifully! Thank you for sharing your techniques!
(whoops….and King -I typed chinstrap twice )
These “cold cards” warm my heart! Such a sweet pair of penguins – and of course, the backgrounds you do are always the best! Maybe they see an iceberg, and baby wants to go there…? Then we could see the Antarctic waters!
