Was that a canopener I heard?

This has got to be one of the funniest sentiments I’ve seen – lol. Especially for anyone with cats! Mine totally do this flying-in-from-wherever-they-are thing when that sound is heard, it’s as if they worry I’d open a can and eat it without them. (Uhm no, I don’t eat cat food!)

Anyway…i knew this would be the stamp for this Food challenge at our Rebel party – though I had no clue where to start with a design. I had the image colored and cut out in my stash box…but it was time to work it out. I started with the new Deconstructed Sketch that just came out (Click on it to go to the main post if you want to enter!):

I wanted to make a guy-friendly card, so I went with some striped paper from Canvas Corp – it’s super heavy nice kraft! I decided to keep everything pretty plain black and kraft otherwise – setting up a nice contrast between the silly image and sentiment and the rest of the card.

The “be home soon” sentiment is from the All the Time set by Hero Arts (benefitting OWH – do you have yours?)…I hadn’t used it before, but thought it might make a REALLY fun card for someone deploying home soon. I’m going to put this in the last box for one of my units coming home next month, so they’re sure to see it. Wouldn’t it be a fun piece of mail to get when anxiously awaiting your hero to arrive back in your arms?

Products used:

  • Stamps by Eat Cake Graphics (Go Kitty Go and Canopener)
  • Copic colors: E35, E31, R18? – can’t read my writing. lol.
  • Paper by Canvas Corp (striped on one side, plain kraft on the other)
  • Be Home Soon by Hero Arts

  1. Awesome card, Sandy!!! I am a cat owner and lover myself so I have seen this look before! You can’t go wrong with a card card in my book but this one “takes the cake!” No, I won’t apologize for the pun. :)

Thanks for organizing the VCMP this weekend – it always a ton of fun and way better than a hop if you ask me! :)

    God Bless,

  2. This card is just too much fun that I had to laugh out loud when I saw this. It is just too funny how cats & dogs both will react this way and act as if they haven’t eaten in a-g-e-s! I love how you cut tails into the ribbon and had the top ones opening up and the bottom ones opening down – very nice touch!

  5. This reminds me of my first cat. She never failed to show up for the can opener! We could call her until we were hoarse and nada, but use the can opener, and there she was! Great card! That image is so cute and funny and I like the sketch you used. I saw that one and was stumped, but Sandy wasn’t, lol!
