October Afternoon and Faux Glass: before and after

Posted on Oct 23, 2012 | 7 comments

I know lots of folks have been enjoying the before-and-afters on Facebook every morning, and repinning the collection on Pinterest. Today I have an extension of the one shared on the Facebook page!

This first image is the ‘before.’ While it’s fine, it lacks some zing. It’s very symmetrical, the colors match (the image and papers are all from the same 8×8 pad)….the faux glass technique applied to the tree image adds some interest, but there’s not much of a WOW factor at all.

I took it apart and reassembled it….with some serious contrast and punch!  There’s a layer around the image and background piece…I could have added one under the cross piece but it didn’t peel off well enough. LOL. But I added some 1.5inch wrinkle ribbon from May Arts and pearl pen too – to carry through the contrast across the card.

The knot is just that – a knot. I used adhesive under the ties, just to secure it in place, but this ribbon is so wonderfully flat here, and will mean it goes through the mail really well!

Hope you’ve been enjoying the before-and-afters!

  1. Was this your card? Or one you received by donation and “fixed”?

  2. Wow ~what a difference!
I think you need a new category
Instead of “Before & After” something like
    “Fine & Fantastic”
since the first one is fine to send

It is similar to the other series of cards you make
    bad, better, best ~design progression
    Love those too

  3. Honestly, I find the first card very peaceful and if I were choosing between the two to send to someone, I’d choose the first one, so I second Annette’s idea of “fine and fantastic.” I like the way you “tied” the ribbon.

  4. Thanks so much, this helps me. yuor the best. Ms. Anna

  5. It’s amazing what a few embellishments will do for a card. Great job!

  6. Just a few changes really made this card pop! I agree with the others that this needs to be called fine and fantastic…its a very catchy phrase.
