My local fire station

I just got back from visiting the Federal Way Fire station…..

Their flag, along with flags across the city and nation, was at half mast…

I’ve been told that police and firefighters aren’t supposed to accept gifts from people – like cookies, etc. But I figured no one could argue with a card, right? Last year it was my police department, and this year, my neighborhood firefighters. (And yes, I know I shouldn’t wait til 9/11 every year to honor them. But I do buy them a coffee or their lunch if I see them in line near me – I do try!)

This one’s a huge card, 5×7, since I had 1) this really giant stamp, and 2) a lot to say :) The stamp is by Stamps Happen out of Fullerton CA (the stamp is called Through This Storm We Do Not Walk Alone #90293)- I found one on Etsy here, but you may be able to find it elsewhere. I picked it up at a stamp store myself. The design almost follows the sketch I posted on the May Arts blog  - I skipped one paper because it just didn’t seem to need it. Papers here are by Glimpses – a recently-retired paper line that I’ll miss! :( I apologize for not jotting down the Copics either, yeesh. Sometimes I just am not good at the details of blogging! But – the puffy smoky stuff here is Sparkly Fluff – remember when I used it here? I wanted to make this card extraspecial for my firefighters, and remember that the Sparkly Fluff could look a lot like puffs of smoke. (And I just need to say, I shoulda tarped the room – I went to Bible Study last night and was asked why I had glitter all over me! lol!!!)

Below is last year’s vlog, coloring this image – but with a brown eagle body. I’m still never sure if bald eagles are really black or brown!

And…to top off my remembrance of 9/11….the perfect activity for OWH. A trip to the post office.

    Thank you

  3. Super card! And that sky high stack of boxes. That’s a lotta LOVE. :)

  4. Oh I know that fire station I didn’t live too far from there at one time. I am going to make a card and mail it to our fire station. Since ours is volunteer there is not someone there all the time.
You have such an eye for color combinations.

  5. Awesome card, I bet they all love it. :) and you are super cool to take it to them!!

  6. Beautiful card Sandy. I took the challenge and went to the local ambulance shed as well as the police department. I didn’t know about the “no cookie” rule so I took them each a plate of brownies. Thanks for the inspiration. I will be posting 2 cards on the challenge.

  7. I love the photo of the OWH boxes with the flag at half mast in the background. Kaylie and I delivered our card and some cookies to our local fire department yesterday, too. There are photos on my blog at allisonscreations.blogspot.com

I love the stamp on your card but could never color it well enough to do it the justice you do!

  8. Beautiful card. I think it is great what you do for the police and fire fighters! My SIL is a Dep Sheriff in King County and I know they appreciate the recognition they receive from the “civilians”.

  9. Great pictures. The OWH boxes piled high under the blue sky is awe-inspiring. Want to come one of the Fridays in October and make/take another pile like that for sending to our deployed heroes.

  10. Gorgeous card! I love seeing your pile of boxes.

  11. This is a beautiful card. Loved your video that you did. Thank you.
