Holiday Card Workshop – Giveaway!

Posted on Oct 19, 2012 | 85 comments

Today I have a card with some very old Cornish Heritage Farms stamps….these are from back before they went offline and then came back. So pardon the lack of a link….these aren’t made anymore :( NEWSFLASH! Kim Hughes just released the set in her Paper Smooches Store!! WOOHOO!  I used some October Afternoon paper, and  layered some May Arts ribbon (red velvet with green satin..mmmm!)…I had toyed with just a big bow, but really wanted to use the sentiment, so I diecut the stamped words with Labels 18, and hand-trimmed the red layer to make it pop. (Too much white was goin’ on!) That allowed me to punch a hole in one side of the sentiment, thread an extra piece of the green ribbon through, and add a holiday brad to squeeze the tail into a more interesting shape.

Oh what fun to color simple shapes! Kinda reminds me of coloring books I loved so much as a kid. For the trees, I used G07 and G18, and a little R29 for the hearts. And Glossy Accents, of course, so they’d shine! The snowman has just a teeny bit of B0000 under his tummy and nose, and a little B00 around the trees. The snow’s made with teeny dots of puffy paint.

And now….for something REALLY exciting!

  1. I LOVE making Christmas cards, both for charity and for friends and family! I have 162 to make before Santa takes his annual ride, but wait we have Halloween cards to finish, then fall, Thanksgiving… Oh boy!!!

  2. Adorable card…I just love the snowman egg (Kim Hughes’ new Paper Smooches set has him in it). I have already sent in my box of OWH holiday cards…so now all I have left is a few really special ones for the kids teachers and my family. I haven’t quite gotten brave enough to handmake the family holiday card….still relying on photo cards to send to the masses! Maybe someday, but the list is awfully long. Thanks for another chance to win a spot in the online class. I’m sure it will be amazing! Have a great day!

  3. Sandy, this card is a “win”! I am always impressed with your Copic coloring, even if you do say this was “simple” in that regard! That extra pizzazz you did with the ribbon and brad treatment is so classy! As for my holiday cards to make: I need to make 35 or so for myself, plus whatever I can get made in the next week (my goal is at least 25) to get to OWH in time for the deadline! I’ll focus on OWH for now…worry about my others later… ;-)

  4. I love your snowman and I really enjoy seeing all the creative ways you have to use ribbon. I have about 30 personal Christmas cards to make and I would like to get another 50 done for OWH by next week. I am so excited for you to be a guest artist in the Holiday Card Workshop. Congratulations!!

  5. Your card is adorable. I have at least 40 cards to make and I have barely started on Halloween!

  6. I haven’t made holiday cards in awhile because I have a hard time coming up with a design to mass produce. I only need 25 for me but then OWH needs oodles! Thanks for a chance to win.

  7. How amazing that you will be a guest teacher. I bet the class would jump start my card making. I will be making about 20 cards this year. Will probably use a snowman so I can also make winter cards for OWH.

  8. What a fun & cute card. I sent my box of Christmas cards for OWH last week and I have the few I need for personal use already made, so I guess I’ll just keep making them and save for OWH for next year.

  9. This is so stinkin’ cute!! I think I have about 20 Christmas cards left to make. (Oh, what a slap back into reality THAT was!! ;-) ) Thanks for the chance to win, as I have ALWAYS wanted to take those classes!! (OK, everything crossed for good luck–fingers, toes, arms, legs…never mind, I’m not superstitious anyway.) Big congrats on being a part of such a wonderful event!!

  10. I have about 18 cards to make. I have been concentrating on OWH cards so now I get to make my own! Sandy you are awesome! I don’t know how you get it all done. You are Superwoman! Keep up the great job!

  11. Love this card! I think I need a total of 20 handmade cards and have aboutv10 done so my answer is i need 10 :)

  12. Cute card that will certainly warm the heart of the recipient! Since I’ve started making our Christmas cards – - the list has whittled to about 25 cards so I can focus on quality ;) Thanks for the chance to win some inspiration!

  13. Such a cute card!!! I have 100 cards to make for my husband’s clients, 50 for family and friends, and about 100 for the local nursing home. Plus I still need to make some for OWH. Better get started!!

  14. We have a small family so I have about 10 family cards. I am sooooo conflicted on OWH cards. I wanna make Christmas cards…no, winter cards…no, birthday cards for kids….no wait, we need Valentine’s. See? Being new to this provides lots of
shopping opportunities, what fun! You are such an inspiration and a blessing. Your talent is remarkable but it is your dedication, commitment and humor that breathe life and personality in to OWH. Thank you for your warm responses and infusion of humor…

  15. Congrats Sandy! That is so awesome that you will be a part of this great group of teachers! So happy for you! I’ve never heard of this class before, but I will be taking it for sure! I usually make about 20 Christmas cards and haven’t even started! Need to get going on that soon.

  16. I would love, love to win ugh class as this will be my first online class. Ive never done it before so a bit skeptical and scared!

  17. I have my OWH cards done but have not started on my Christmas cards. Sooooo, I have all of them to do, 30+. Congrats to you, Sandy.

  18. My OWH cards are done and in the mail. I have about 10 more to make for my personal use.

  19. I mailed my OWH cards a few days ago so I’m taking a week off from Chtistmas cards, lol! Then I’ll need to make about 50 or so for friends and family.

  20. How many Christmas cards I have yet to make? All of them – haha. Seriously, the only Christmas cards I have made are going in the mail today for OWH. But I will probably make only 20 cards this year to send out to friends.

  21. I have about 50 cards to mass produce for our family cards, but then I’m sure I’ll be making lots more for challenges/fun/etc. Thanks for the chance to win!

  22. How many do I plan to make? As many as my short fingers can create! I plan to have another box (50, 60?) OWH and Any Hero cards by Oct deadline and then focus on family and friends. And since my brother will be home for the holidays this year (from Kuwait and Afghanistan! yeah!) I may just make him a dozen or more!!

  23. I usually try to make 40 cards or so for Christmas. Your blog and outreach inspires me, Sandy!

  24. I have about 35 left to make but need to finish my fall ones first. Thanks for all you do for our troops.

  25. Well, I have all my Christmas cards to make. Nothing like procrastinating!

  26. I only need about 20 as I have some leftover from last year. Couldn’t send them to OWH because I’m a glitter freak and these all had loose glitter on them. :)

  27. This is a very cute card! Like how you glossied the heart! Love the ribbon! I have nearly all my Christmas cards to make which will be about 30! I had the brilliant idea to make 20 Christmas cards as a gift for my mother’s birthday and altered a card box for them to go in. I’ll be starting on mine very soon though and hoping to use my Thanksgiving holiday to get some of them done!

  28. I did my OWH Christmas cards a long time ago, but I haven’t been in the mood to make my own, i need to make about 25 more. Checking out your blog everyday to see the beautiful cards you make and the coloring, maybe I will get in the mood. Thanks for sharing your creations with us.

  29. Cute card – I don’t usually do cute, but I can see myself making that one. I’m still fast and furious with my OWH box of holiday cards and mine seem to get made along the way. I couldn’t resist glitter on one, made too big of a bow on another…Anyway, I have about 50 more of my own to make, but that will come after the OWH deadline.

    • I couldn’t wait to see if I won – I already registered for the class!

  30. love love love this card it is sooooo much fun! the embossed snow breaks up all that white, very colorful paper choice and the ribbon matches perfectly, not to mention your great coloring as always. I have about 30 personal cards to make yet and 300 cards for my daughters paper route customers, though i do have a bunch of images colored for those.

  31. Love the card – and I registered for the class – ENABLER! hehehehe! I have teo finish days 10-12 on the last online class – but it was great – can’t wait to see your video!

  32. Love the card! Those colors on the black base really stand out. I have to make about 70 cards for my personal card list (they will all be the same), and I hope to make several more as Hero Mail to send to the Red Cross who will distribute them to our Heroes at military installations, veterans hospitals, and in other locations. I’ve already sent some to OWH, and now can help say thanks to some of our returning Heroes. Check out this site if you have any extra Christmas cards: http://www.redcross.org/support/get-involved/holiday-mail-for-heroes.

  33. How exciting… I would LOVE to take this class! I have NOT started my Christmas cards yet (sad face). I have been busy with my grandbabies homework (3 yr olds) lol
So I still need to make about 25 Christmas cards.

  34. This card ROCKS! So cute. Love the way you tied your ribbon, Gorgeous.

  35. I guess I have all my cards to make! Last weekend when we were all together I wanted to get a picture of us , but alas, that didn’t happen.

  36. I haven’t even done so much as look at Christmas stamps. Yikes! I’ll need to make 100 or so cards so I really, really need to get busy.

  37. I am finished with my cards, I only make them for OWH and they have gone postal already.

  38. I’ve taken a couple classes with these ladies and they are awesome. You learn so much from them and the cards are easy to follow.
Your snowman card is adorable; love the images and the extras you added to it.

  39. Slowly but surely other top paper crafters are hearing your name, checking out your work, and recognizing your talent. Congratulations! What a great group to be included in. I haven’t started this year’s Christmas cards. I make them for my local VFW, so will do some for them first. My family doesn’t care if they’re a bit late, but I have about 60 to make for them, so I’d better get to hopping. The VFW requested 30-40, so I need to find some OSW cards — quick! Perhaps this class would jump start me.

    • Forgot to add how much I like this card. I love stripes and green (that shade on the bow is gorgeous!) and snowmen and great sentiments. I can see me ordering this set when my self-imposed spending freeze is lifted, though I’ll have to save it for next year. Your coloring is always top-notch, as is your design and choice of added embellishments. I need to remember to use Glossy Accents more, along with some cute brads like this that I hoard for fear I’ll never find them again. I know: why buy them if I’m not going to use them. I’m working on that….

  40. The only Christmas cards I make are for OWH. I have 12 ready to send now. Need to see what else the box needs before mailing off next week.

Congrats on being one of the instructors for the Holiday Card Class!

  41. Your card is so Cute!! You have such a talent for color. And Congrats on being a special guest artist, Very well deserved. I will be making Christmas cards for OWH until it’s time to get them in the mail for the deadline. Then I can start on my 80 personal Christmas cards. Thanks for a chance to win!

  42. I’ve limited my Christmas cardmaking to ten. That’s it. Too involved with physical therapy and that’s a humungus goal…to walk again. Have to keep my eyes on the prize. Would love a seat in the class as I can do that any time. Thanks for the chance. Becky J.

  43. I have been busy making cards for OWH, so now I will begin my own. I don’t have a number, I just make until I get tired and ready to move on to another style or holiday. I love all your helpful tips and trick. Would love a free class.

  44. I’m going to try to make some Christmas and some Christmas/Thank You for all the people who have helped my hubby and me this year through lots of health challenges. I’m gonna guess I’ll need about 100! LOL!

  45. Love the snowman! And the addition of glossy accents is a great touch! I have about 30 cards to make. I am planning to finish up my OWH cards this weekend! I look forward to the card class…looks like another great one!

  46. Congrats again on another entry for your artsy resume’. So cool to know who you are! Still have about 50 CHRISTmas cards to make since I made them for OWH first, of course!!

  47. Let’s see…I need about 30 Christmas cards. I’ve made 14 but 10 of those are going to the Bazzill card swap. So that leaves me with 26 to make. They can wait until at least the end of November!

  48. I’ve made all the Christmas cards I need to as they all go to OWH. Holiday cards stump me though so would love the chance to attend this class!

  49. !!! Great Job, I love Snow men, got to go and make my Snow Man. Ms. Anna

  50. I have not made any of my personal cards yet, so I have about 40 to make. I bought all the supplies, now to get busy!!

  51. Gah – I love the stamp set (must go to the Paper Smooches website after this). As for my Christmas cards … eeeep! I haven’t even started! Although I typically only make about 40 or so handmade cards, so I have time.

  52. I make about 50 cards for Christmas and have not started yet!

  53. this card is so cute! I make 45-50 Christmas cards for my own use each year. I have 8 done so many more to make!

  54. I seem to never ever actually be “done” with Christmas cards until after Christmas because I always have someone else at work I could give one too! I’d say that between family and friends I need at least 100!

  55. WOW!! LOVE the CUTE card!! =) I usually send about 300 cards out for the Holidays!! I work on them all year and I have about 90 to make before Christmas!! THen I am expecting in early January and will be making my Baby Announcments to be sent out while I’m at the hospital!! I did this with my first son and everyone was so AMAZED, but I knew if I didn’t have them done before I came home from the hospital they wouldn’t get sent at all!! THANKS for the chance to win and have a FABULOUS WEEKEND!! =)

  56. I really don’t know how many more Christmas cards I need to make. I made tons and then sent off a big box to OWH…haven’t counted to see whats left. But some were to thick for mailing so those got put in the hand deliver pile, I think there’s 10 or so there. I’m hoping I’ve got a good start left, each year the list seems to grow and grow! Plus since I really am not fond of multiples….well it can get a bit complicated! As I said on Utube…congrats on your guest spot for this class, we know how fabulous you are, now the rest of the crafty world is catching on!
Thanks for the chance, would love to take this class.
    R/

  57. I haven’t even started on my Christmas cards. I will probably make about 20. The wee grandkids always get a cute card. They love mail

  58. Been so busy with so many things…need to make about 80 and time’s getting short! Love your snow man! Wow! I think I need this class…………

  59. Adorable card – I need to make about 20 cards – not much but the hard part is figuring out the design for each one! Love to win this class, thanks!

  60. Once angain Sandy you have created a beautiful card. Around the holidays I make around 100 – 120 cards. This includes cards I make for some “older” friends who can’t get out to get their own Christmas cards. I have always wanted to take one of the online classes. Good luck to all!

  61. My Christmas cards for OWH have been mailed so I only have the family ones to do. I will probably end up making about 30. Congratulations on the teaching gig and thanks so much for the chance to win a seat!

  62. I love Paper Smooches stamps! Your card is adorable. I have my supplies for Christmas cards, but haven’t made any yet. Thanks for the chance to win a spot in your class!

  63. Hi Sandy. Coloring the simple shapes looks so fun – I wish I had more simple stamps! I probably won’t mail cards this year (can’t afford the postage!), but I am planning to get busy and make about 30 “cards” for folks at work. As soon as I get the current box of cards shipped to OWH, I can focus on those card/gifts. Probably something like a package of microwave popcorn in a pretty or funny paper wrapper, or candy in a paper stocking or something.

  64. I forgot to say how cool it is that you’ve been invited to be a guest teacher for the online card making workshop! Honestly, I probably would never have considered paying to see videos and get ideas, but since you are participating I checked out the workshop site. It does sound like a really good deal – and a fun time to boot!

  65. Loved watching Ciara “help” you pack that box, again. So darn cute! I make 5 Christmas cards every 25th of the month so have enough for my family and friends now but will make this month’s this weekend so that I can get my OWH box into the mail on Monday. Congrats on being a guest teacher on such a great class.

  66. I make about 100 personal Christmas cards, and have about 20 already made. Then I’ve been asked to make some for a friend who works in a military hospital to give to his soldier patients to send home. I’ll be a busy girl!

  67. Hi Sandy! I make 100 cards for my family and as many as I can make for OWH. I have 64 so far, and I’m trying to send 125. Wish me luck, they have to get in the mail by Thursday. My whole day today is just for OWH (sigh). I stopped cardmaking to try to win a spot in your class. Lol!!! Well, back to work. Oh, and thank you for the chance to win. Bye! :)

  68. Hi Sandy, I try and make about 100 to give to family, friends and co-workers. Then about another 30-50 to my mil’s nursing home – she gets something sorta like store credit. Congrats to being a guest teacher – that is SO AWESOME!!!!

  69. I send out at least 50 cards to family and friends and I would like to get some done for OWH. I also want to make some tags for Christmas goodies and to give out to my great paparazzi clients. I love this set!

  70. I need to make about 75 or 80 Christmas cards. Looking forward to seeing what you teach in the class…looks like lots of fun. Thanks…Sandy

  71. Sorry to say that I had signed up for the workshop in early October, so am missing the chance for a free ride…however, knowing my luck on winning anything, it’s probably best that I did! Looking forward to this…and seeing your part in it.
    Excited for you, Sandy…good luck.

  72. well, i think i have about 6 of 35 christmas cards made so far! hey! it’s better than last year! lol! thanks for the chance at winning the class!
    sandyh

  73. I am very new to this. After sending in my first load of cards, (this week) I have planned on making 23 cards for friends and family.

  74. Love this card! The stamps are adorable. The Copic coloring was awesome and I loved the puff paint snow. I still have about 20 cards left to make before Christmas.

  75. What a sweet card! And I love your enthusiastic description of its creation!! I’m working on holiday cards for OWH, I’ll be making card sets for gifts & some gift card holders, and about 30 cards for relatives and friends… but, oh dear, I hope I’m not leaving anybody out :P The online class would be great– thanks for the chance!

  76. I love your card!! You’ve inspired me to get started on the 25 cards I need to make.

  77. I have no idea how many I have to make. I make them for OWH all year long. For friends and family, I think I have about 10 left.

  78. Love the snowman card.

  79. I only have 18 more to make.

  80. I have to make about 50….better start making them. Thanks for a chance to win.

  81. I have about 15 more cards that I’m making for local troops and haven’t even started making cards for my family and friends.

  82. I have to make them all! :(

  83. I have this set of stamps and love the way you used them. Thanks so much. I just subscribed to your blog. Loved what you did at Hero Arts today.
