Ghosting…but not the scary kind!

Posted on Aug 1, 2012 | 13 comments

This month, Oozak’s got a challenge out for Fall themed cards. In addition to that, I asked Rusty for any special requests he’d like to have a video on – and he asked for the Crafters Workshop Templates. I actually had to ask around to see what the heck they were! I have a couple of them now, and tried a technique by Diane Reaveley from Ranger – a very cool inky technique called Ghosting. I spent a day getting uber-messy, and came out with some cards that were pretty awesome! Hope you enjoy the video!!

Here’s the card itself…..very very subtle image. It dries back sooooo softly! I left the design very CAS so the ink work could steal the stage; I added only a punched fence and sentiment. And a little yellow ribbon round the old picket fence. :)

Here’s a closeup of the yummy ink:

Inside information: I made a ton of mistakes along the way….but I didn’t toss them all. I kept the ones that weren’t too atrocious, and I cut leaves from them…..some of which you’re seeing on other cards this week, like yesterday’s! Here’s the leaf template for you….click and it will get bigger, you can size it any way you want.

Go over to Oozak and join in the fall card challenge!

And one final note for today…since this is The Official Start of My Term On The May Arts Design Team, please go over to their blog and leave some love!! Sometime today our bios will be posted – and I’d love for our OWHers to show them how some comments are left — with lots of love and affection for all the designers! :)

  1. Super video!! Can’t wait to try these techniques. Thanks, Sandy.

  2. Looks pretty and I am with you – I would be close to an attack and my whole house would end up needing a redecoration if I tried anything like that. Well done Sandy – I would never have taken you for a girl who would get all messy – but I did see a lot of drying your worksurface (giggle)… Cute card. =0) Guess that answers your question – NO I do not like getting inky and messy.. but I still love crafting.

  3. Great card! I really like this technique. I don’t mind getting all inky sometimes, but I HATE waiting for stuff to dry. Must be my “I want it now!” gene. If something has to dry overnight, I don’t have the patience. I might be tempted to try this though, since you were drying your pieces in between steps with the heat gun. (Now why didn’t I think of that before?) LOL. I do like CAS and this card is that. I totally love the yellow ribbon.

  4. Very cool!

  5. Soooooo coooool! Love this effect. I’m a neat freak so I don’t get real inky, but this is definitely worth it. Awesome.

  6. That is so cool – those inks on are my wishlist. I actually had a few bottles a few months back but wasn’t having any success with them for lack of a tutorial. Now I’m kicking myself for tossing them. Lesson learned!

  7. my plastic templates have been stuck in a drawer for too long…time to pull them out and give this technique a try. yes, i am often seen with ink stained fingers and it doesn’t bother me a bit!

  8. Great Video. Chief bought some of those templetes and now I know what to do with them. Thanks for the fun tutorial.

  9. Thanks for the great video. Love that you showed different ways to use the same products! TFS!

  10. Loved the tutorial Sandy. Loved that it was so complete and didn’t feel rushed. Your hints and tips were helpful and your humor is always so appreciated. More please!

  11. Great video Sandy! Love the step by step instructions and the beautiful result. I will definitely try this technique even though I try not to get too inky.
I could not leave comment at Oozak as it seems that an account is required that I do not have.

  12. I saw your video on Oozak. Thanks for the awesome video, I was so excited about this that I placed an order right away. I swear that my order was ready in less than 5 minutes, heck I can’t checkout at a store that fast. Thanks for the how to and inspiration. Also thanks to Oozak for the great service!!

    • That’s great Barb! If you post something using the technique let me know, I’d love to see it!
