Faux Watercolor Hand Lettering

For those, like me, who are hand-lettering challenged…try this out!

Faux Watercolor Hand Lettering

I picked up some fabulous Winnie and Walter sentiment sets – and I had planned on just using them with my regular inks. But as I was playing with watercoloring the birds using markers…I started playing with the markers on teh stamps too. At first I was bummed that I got such a beaded-up image with different markers. Then – the AHA moment! Watch the video below or click HERE to see it in HD on YouTube.

NOTE: If you try this technique, your stamps may stain; this won’t make them unusable, or transfer to other inks (do wipe them down after use though). They’ll just have a little color on them.

I was going to put the image panel on the outside, but one of my dies was sitting nearby my workspace – so I decided to create a little peekaboo.

The sympathy card sports some of the new sequins I picked up last week – love that they’re in a tin. Most of mine are in baggies and I’m drowning in them! lol.

  2. So clever! Love this idea! These scripty words are so perfect for this and those little birdies are adorable! 🙂

  3. Absolutely wonderful! Those little birdies couldn’t be any cuter, and your faux lettering tutorial was great!

  4. Oh, I love this. Thank you for the detailed explanation! I decided to invest in the Tombows after I saw you at CHA using them directly on the Art Impression stamps. Geez, that was more than 3 months ago and I haven’t gotten to it yet! Now THIS idea to use them with word stamps is inspiring me even more to work with them. Gotta look into the Winnie and Walter stamps, too. These birds are so so cute!

  5. Beautifully done, Sandy, and I just love these birds!!! So sweet! And thanks for the great video! Hugs!

  6. Love, love LOVE the hand lettered look! And now I can do it too thanks to you!! So thankful your brain works the way it does. 🙂

  7. You always give us such cute ideas for different cards! Thank you. I’ve been trying to watercolor letters but unsuccessful so far. This one should work perfectly!

  8. Thank You Sandy for another great water colour tutorial. These are always so helpful to me to learn more basic tips & techniques in water colouring. Your card look amazing.

  10. You are something else! Faux watercolor hand lettering – now this is hand lettering I think I’ll be able to do! Thank you!

  11. Thanks for showcasing some Walter and Winnie–the ladies who run that great company live in the same city as mine and we all used to frequent the same LSS (which sadly, has closed). Julie and Shay are doing a marvelous job with their company and I know support from great artists like you really helps.

  12. So cute. The glasses are a nice touch.

  13. Sandy – great ideas here – and I especially ike the “plot twist” at the end – putting the birdies inside the card & die cutting a window on the front. Sometimes no matter how creative I try to be, I stamp myself into a box. Time to get outta there!
