Clean Color Pen tips + Avery Elle Monsters

Got any October birthdays coming up? How about packaging up some monsters to give them?

Clean Color Pen Tips

The new Monsters set from Avery Elle made me smile just looking at it – and I just had to color up these little guys! I also decided to attempt another background – and maybe answer a question about these Clean Color Pens that lots of folks have asked: Are my markers defective if they go on “dry”? Probably not, but it depends on the paper you’re using. If it’s textured, then a light touch with the markers will make the pen “skip” over the raised bumps on the surface of the paper. Try slower strokes, holding the pen more vertically, and press just a little bit harder. (Try each separately and see if just one works – I find that the “slow” tip works best for me.) To see more tips, watch the video below, or click HERE to watch in HD on YouTube.

I hope my crazy background helped to explain a little more about how these pens work – and how you can repair an image with water, using an aquabrush or a brush with water and a paper towel.

And I might have neglected to mention I added fun water drops with Glossy Accents – it really adds to the crazy fun effect!

The stamp set comes with a bunch of different sentiments to put on the box – so you can make this for a variety of occasions!

Periscope today…maybe!

I’m planning to do a Periscope broadcast today if I can – and will color something else from the Avery Elle release. The only thing possibly stopping me – I need to be practicing my Toastmasters speech, as I’m on a tour of all the local clubs so I can get feedback and improve the speech before I have to compete again next week! eeep! In case I’m able to do it, check my Periscope page HERE for the link to download the app….and watch Instagram and Twitter (as well as the app) to find out when it’s live! If not today, it’ll be tomorrow! Let me know in a comment which of the new release you think I ought to color up!

  1. Love it! My Birthday is October 30, just sayin

  2. Sandy, you always seem to have the most creative ways to use stamps. I think most people would have used one or two monsters, a few balloons, and a sentiment without coloring the whole panel in. I am also not sure that many would choose to make a birthday card with a Halloween set. Thanks for thinking outside box!

    1. Outside the box….ha…I get it…box… 🙂 🙂 🙂

  3. Love your card and coloring. Thank you for the clean color pen tips. I just received a box of the pens today. Can’t wait to try them out.

  4. Fangtastic card. Those monsters are so cute and I love how you had the light come from the bottom. TFS

  5. Love the card and video! The tips are great! Like seeing the different lighting source. I, too, would like to see the snow globe “in action”. Techniques for glass from the snow globe and the scene behind the snow globe would be very interesting and useful.

  6. What a bright and cute card. Love the monsters. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.

  7. Love your work. I am learning from each video. Thanks for sharing

  8. Such a wonderful card! Love the colors!

  9. Great job of making these Halloween images work for a birthday card. Monsters are always good to give or receive. Thank you so much for the information on using the Zig Real Color brushes. They have such strong colors and I seem to have problems getting them to blend. Nice to see how you do it. I must try it again. I only have the set of 12 but I know I will get it worked out. Thanks for sharing.

  10. This is a wonderful card and it really “spoke” to me! I am an October baby- born 10/10/??. I will be doing this card with Copic markers! Feel free to help us Copic people with the colors! lol. Thanks for a great card!

  11. Such a fun card you created. I like the set Snow Much Fun from the new release. Looks like it will have lots of possibilities. Good luck on your speech going forward.

  12. Hi Sandy, BEAUTIFUL! LOVE the colors and the contrasts! Question…how is bleed-through? I do Bible Journaling and would love the vivid colors but not if it bleeds through. TIA

    1. I haven’t tried them on any of the bible types of papers – but you can buy the markers just one at a time and try one?

  13. Sandy, I love your coloring and have learned a bunch from watching you. One way I have found to remove watercolor from places it is not wanted is to use a dampened bit of Mr. Clean Magic Erasure. By dabbing the erasure on the area, you can lift the color out of the spot. I have used this technique when water alone does not lift well.

  14. I have a friend who was born on Halloween…I think I’ve found her birthday card! I’ll let you know how it comes out with Copics!

  15. Please, please colour the snow globe!! :)))

    Love the monster card 🙂

  16. Adorable, adorable, adorable!!! Thanks for sharing.

  17. Awesome card for an October birthday. So cheerful and colorful.
