Thinking of you, ol’ man

Posted on Mar 23, 2013 | 3 comments

Update on the renovation: the plumbing and other issues are resolved! Carpet’s out, dumpster’s gone. Next up is sheetrock and electric, probably starting Monday morning. So it’s time to shop for LIGHTS! Wooohoo!

And a reminder – I have a little ICSE class going on this afternoon! Depending on when things happen tomorrow, I may try it in the new room….I have little space to set up out here in the dining room, so students might get a glimpse at what the new space looks like. Or not, if I can work out doing it more comfortably at the table. And in the evening I hope to be going out to see The Croods with some friends for my birthday! :)

I know some hero is going to see this image and know an elderly gent to send it to! With tomorrow being my dad’s birthday, you might think it’s him – but he never quite looked anything like this! :)

And before you go asking about the image – it’s not available for purchase. It was another of the Copic Color and Ink Workshop images drawn by the fabulous Marianne Walker…just for the students to use! And I can’t tell you the colors I used….you need to go take the class for that :) Sandy Allnock - Old Man Card 2

Paper’s by Graphic 45, and the burlap is ribbon by May Arts. Sentiment from Hero Arts.

10 Minute Craft Dash!

Posted on Mar 6, 2013 | 18 comments

I have a little something different for you today, friends – May Arts is sponsoring the 10 Minute Craft Dash over at Paulina Nakamura’s blog, Pretty Pink Posh! And if you watch OWHtv regularly, well….you’ll know that even SOUNDS like something I need to do, right?

CD_13

Before I go further, I want to welcome new visitors from the challenge blog! I hope you’ll get a cup of coffee and sit down for a little visit. I love hearing your comments and questions, and you’re invited to follow me for daily card inspiration. A little about me – I’m a compulsive [understatement!] crafter, I’m a professional graphic designer by day and the Executive Director for Operation Write Home during my spare time. With OWH I produce a weekly live show, and we’d love for you to join in the fun! Click HERE to see some past episodes. I’ve also got a little monthly test class on StageIt – it’s a little Copic coloring class I do for fun and a wee bit of income, and you can see details HERE for the next one on March 23. Okay, now on to the Dash!

I’m a Ribbonista over at May Arts, so of course I had to get involved in this challenge when I heard the company was sponsoring this. I hope you play too, just look at the yummy ribbon sampler pack you can win! Link up over at Paulina Nakamura’s blog.

The colors are in the challenge banner….so I pulled out some burlap and grosgrain, some scraps of paper, a stamp that needs no coloring (since I don’t have time!) – and got to work.  Watch the video to see if I made it on time!

If you enjoyed that bit of live craziness, please come visit OWHtv this Thursday night! The 30 minute webcast starts at 6:30pm Pacific, and will be HERE – if you want a reminder, go like the OWH Facebook page, and the link is reposted there and on our Twitter at 6pm. (It’s also in the sidebar of the Stars and Stamps blog too!)

ODBD Challenge meets Fred She Said

Posted on Mar 3, 2013 | 7 comments

This month I’m joining in the ODBD challenge – because we need to rock it! :) We can’t leave it til the end of March this time since they’re due by the 31st (and mine have “so far to travel, lol)!! So I colored up some Cosmos from FSS (why are they called that? I really should go look…such an odd name, but great images!)…..and made a CAS card since it’s also Clean and Simple Sunday here. All my elements are gathered in one focal point section, leaving the rest of the card open and clean. Ish.

I had a slip of paper here with the Copic colors on it….and yet when I’m sitting here trying to type it up – it ran away! :(

I totally forgot the endodontist report: Root canal coming up on the 11th. Bummer, but at least it’ll be done soon :)

Thanks a loot!

Posted on Feb 26, 2013 | 5 comments

I am soooo grateful for everyone who took advantage of the awesome Stamp Sale Fundraiser – you guys love a bargain, and we’re so thankful that MFT donated goodies to allow that to happen! We do have a little more, but not a ton so hurry if you’re still thinking about it!

(By the way, I had divided the “loot” into several things so we’ll be doing more stamp sales over the coming months, and I’m looking at creative ways to make that happen. Stay tuned!)

This is one of the stamps that we’ve had in the fundraiser – she’s so cute, and OH the size of her loot! LOL! I paired her with some Graphic 45 paper, silk ribbon, and an EK Success border punch…

Flapper Anya

Yay, it’s Sunday! :) My to do list isn’t too overwhelming today, either, so I’m hoping for some playtime. I was hoping to get a tut done with some new products – ack! So cross your fingers for time :)

Little Anya’s here to do her happy dance….

Sandy Allnock - Flapper Anya 1

She’s a retired stamp….so if you fall in love with her you might check eBay or some non-TGF websites. Background chevron paper is by Lawn Fawn (my 2nd to last cardfront piece, eep!), and the others are from G45.Sandy Allnock - Flapper Anya 2

I colored this one during a break while at the Copic Color and Ink workshop in Anaheim; Copic colors used: E50 E51 E53 E34 E93 YR24 E37 Y21 W10 W6 W4

ICP Sketch C

Posted on Dec 28, 2012 | 3 comments

H’lo and happy Friday! Has this seemed like a long week to anyone else? Maybe not if you’ve been off work….but it’s been the longest couple days of work ever…and I couldn’t be happier it’s the end of the week at 5pm today! :)

I thought I’d share a love card that was going to be in the Interactive Cardmaking Project at one time…til I realized I didn’t have a clue who makes the stamps. LOL. I did my best to use known products so I could name it all. And….yeah. When I got down to this one I realized I had to replace it! But it’s still darned cute. And it got mailed out a while ago :)  So yes, this is some old mojo! I’ve been clean out of inspiration lately – egads. I think there’s an elf somewhere who ripped off my mojo and packed it up in Santa’s sleigh!

Sandy Allnock - ICP Sketch C

Papers here are from Graphic 45….and the suede cord is from May Arts.

Last night I was desperately trying to get a card made for a video assignment…and oh man. You guys think I’m so fast, but it took the entire night to get ONE card made. One. Lordy. I did get others made that weren’t “the” card to use for the project, but…..I still can’t believe it took that much out of me! I’ve decided that having no mojo is definitely WORSE than having insomnia – which I get pretty frequently. And I’d prefer insomnia to the way I spent the evening! :(

Let’s hope that the Copic Class tomorrow revives me….maybe just getting back on camera will do it. Sometimes the “pressure to perform” knocks the cobwebs out, know what I mean? I have a bunch of videos I should really get done before CHA….so if I can get the card kits finished for the show, I’ll get jamming on those. Yeeep. Anybody got any leftover hours in their 2012? I could use them up for ya! :)

Bentley’s got something 2 give 2U!

Posted on Dec 7, 2012 | 8 comments

I love lil Bentley from Eat Cake Graphics! He’s so cute – and he’s pointing kinda randomly. (Like me staring randomly during the glitter tutorial! ha.)

And of course he’s not pointing at “2 U” for totally random reasons – he’s got something for YOU! Those who watched OWHtv last night already know, but…the ICP is live! Have fun – and Merry Christmas to YOU!

Little Treasure

I’ll apologize now for these photos…agh! I tried fixing them, but the colors are so soft that they get blown out if I brighten it…it’s really a much prettier card than these photos show. I used Graphic 45′s Little Darlings pad – LOVE it.

The border across it is one of the new Fiskars ones, the Lacey Doubles. :)

If you wanted to see the laced boots tutorial at Club Scrap, go see it today on their blog. :)

I’m playing with more ribbon while I twiddle my thumbs and wait. lol. Oh, the things that comfort me! I’m starting to worry I’m using up all my ribbon ideas while I wait.

I stamped and embossed the sentiment and stars from the Hero Arts set…added some glossy accents to some of them.

The ribbon is really simply folded and adhered with gluedots, no big technique here. I wanted to keep it as flat as I could….
