VCMP Beribboned missing-you guy card?

Posted on May 7, 2013 | 2 comments

Today’s card is, I hope, a little masculine. Not so sure I pulled it off? I made it for the missing you challenge for ODBD….and I wanted to see if this new ribbon I got from May Arts worked as masculine ribbon. Whatcha think?Sandy Allnock - VCMP Missing You1

Lots of folks say they want alternatives to “missing you” on a missing you card. I put a lot of other sentiments in my missing you sections. Things like this one as well as anything about ‘dreaming of home’ or ‘no place like home’ etc. Since we don’t get as many of the other themes as we do the general cards, I kinda get generous with the cards that are on the border between thinking of you and the others. My rule of thumb – thinking of you cards *could* go to a loved one but could also go to a coworker back home, a teacher, or anyone. The love and missing you cards are more personal and lovey for intimate family. Hope that makes sense!Sandy Allnock - VCMP Missing You2

VCMP: I miss flippin’ burgers with you

Posted on May 6, 2013 | 7 comments

With so many of our service members being guys – I know this card is gonna be a hit.

I’m not a big fan of the “Who’s that guy/gal” series from MFT, but this one doesn’t bother me one bit for some reason – I think it’s possibly the grilled burgers! LOL! The stamp set comes with burger stamps and hot dogs too, but I decided to make my own out of pearl pen! The layout is from one of the sketches Nancy posted in her VCMP challenge to use a scrappy sketch for a card. I love that idea – scrappy sketches have lots more little bits to them! This also works for JoAnn’s summer challenge too!

This is the sketch I chose:

I’d already colored the image a while ago, and picked these great papers from the Authentique “Loyal” collection. Copic colors:

Inside the grill: W10 W8 W6 C6 C4 E84 Y26 Y13 YR12; skin: E51 E11 BV00; outfit: G24 YG63 E31 E23 E55

Go out and have a great week….mine’s jam packed, but I feel good that last night I triaged my inbox – so maybe I can keep up now? lol!!

Anna Belle Sweetness Copic class coming!

Posted on Apr 20, 2013 | 2 comments

Tomorrow afternoon’s the next class! Be sure to go today and buy the image – and your StageIt ticket! Colors used here are the suggested one on the ICSE page. But the pdf that’s being sent out to all students has a lot of color options. (I just sent it out – if you don’t get it let me know; it’s coming from StageIt’s system, and is sent to the address you log in there with – possibly your Fb account address. Check your spam!)

Hey, from the bluebird.

Renovation update! Ohhhhhh, is this getting close! Last night I came home to cabinets that were set – so I took the liberty of moving a few things into them! The handles aren’t on the drawers or cupboards yet, but I just wanted to put SOMEthing in there. I couldn’t do much anyway, since I hurt my back the other day – moving in’s gonna be slow for this old bird. Countertops are due for installation Thursday – hoping today I’ll come home to trim and floors done, maybe shelves and blinds installed. We’ll see!

Once in a while, you find a stamp you. just. love. This crazy buzzard from Art Impressions is surely one of my faves! Especially on a day with a ‘tude!

Sandy Allnock - AI Bluebird Vulture1

And I just love the sentiment that goes with it, which I stamped inside. The thing I really love – lots of “grumpy” stamps are grumpy AT the recipient. This stamp and sentiment are pointing their finger at the sender!

Patterned papers are from Authentique’s Loyal collection…..Copic colors: Bird – C8 C6 C4 W8 W4; E95 is the fleshy color, dulled down with a little BV0 and dollops of greys. Beak’s Y17 with some YR23 for good measure. Ain’t he cute?Sandy Allnock - AI Bluebird Vulturef

Hero Arts: Sitting here thinking of you

Posted on Mar 20, 2013 | 12 comments

Renovation update: Ohmygosh do I have a ton of junk in my house! Last night I spent many hours – too many – cleaning out the shipping room and most of the craft room. I finally quit at midnight, utterly exhausted! I’m setting up a minicrafting area in the dining room table area…as I packed up, I saved out the most important things as if I was going on a two-week “crop” – the rest of my stuff is in boxes stacked high! Any guesses as to how many times I disassemble the pile to find that one tool I packed away!?!? lol! Hopefully I’ll be spending the next 2 weeks catching up on computer work, though; that might be the best way to use this construction time period. We’ll see!

Happy hump day! If you need to sit down and take a load off, here’s a fluffy red chair to do it in. This was SO FUN to color! I set the scene with papers from Authentique for “wallpaper” – I love how the texture of it even makes the wallpaper feel real on the card!

Sandy Allnock - Hero Arts Wish you were here 1

The chair is popped – I stamped the image on the background so the back legs would look recessed, and cut them off when I fussycut the rest of the chair. And adding the W3 shadows on the Kraft just made it look so realistic! Copic colors: R24 R17 R56 R37 R89…and I added a dot of white pen to the buttons of the chair.

Authentique Mother

Uberquick post for you today with another of my Authentique cards from the weekend. This pad has lots of (mostly) solids and just a few florals, and I tried to CASE a card from memory that…well…it isn’t exactly like what I had seen, which shows me how bad my memory is! ha!

Whipper Snapper Hedgie

Posted on Mar 12, 2013 | 7 comments

Here’s another card with one of my new 6x6s bought this weekend – it’s by Authentique, and I decided to try something new – use pink, with Kraft for my accent rather than a strong black, brown, or navy! I’m never one to use much pink ever, and not to use a strong contrasting color – eeep!

Sandy Allnock - Whipper Snapper Hedgie1

One other thing I did here was to use paper in the same way as I wanted to use ribbon – since I hadn’t taken any matching ribbon to stamp group with me that day. So the paper worked pretty nicely!

Sandy Allnock - Whipper Snapper Hedgie2

Now I’d once again love to share the colors. But….this is an image colored before I kept lists of colors. I’m trying to get those used up, and am working on a system for tracking my marker colors for each image…cross your fingers it works! lol.

Paper Smooches: Proud gator

Posted on Mar 10, 2013 | 1 comment

Wow, thanks so much for all the love on the blog skip yesterday! If you missed it, scroll down a post – there’s a lil giveaway :) I still need to take time to go read through them all – I was out at my stamp group yesterday at my LSS and celebrating a friend’s birthday  last night, and went almost right to bed when I finally got home. A favorite kind of day, full of mojo!

For my card….I’m seeing so much pink and purple right now that I just wanted to go clear over to the masculine side for this one! Every spring I think the bright girlie colors call out to us all after the drabs of winter – but we still need cards for our men and women to send home to their boys!

Sandy Allnock - Paper Smooches gator

Papers are from a fall 6×6 from Authentique – but I don’t think they need to be relegated to fall only! The warm colors are a great complement to the little green gator – they’re all in a muted, rich colorspace, so I think they work great together. The little bits of cream in the gator anchor him within the right color grouping. And I just love how he’s gazing up at the sentiment – as if he really IS proud!

Grow better with love!

Posted on Feb 23, 2013 | 3 comments

This little girl has it right…we all grow better with love, right? I know I do…when I get all lonely and become a navel-gazer, focusing just on myself and what’s wrong, I get all kinds of weird. But love someone….reach out and make a difference to someone else? That makes everything alright! Nothing like taking your mind off your own stuff and helping someone else to get your groove on :)

I have a big full day today. Post office trip, auto repair shop (ugh), ICSE Copic class, then a play tonight. Woohoo! And a concert tomorrow, and I went out for bingo last night – it’s almost like I have a life! Haha! I’m gonna be so far behind….lol!

Enough yammering…you’re here for a card! And today….I attempted shabby chic! Egads I’m not very good at it. I think I should have used an image without dark hair, I think that takes far too much attention from everything else fun on the card. But….some little girl will still love getting this from her mommy or daddy overseas :)
