Art Impressions

Hey, from the bluebird.

Renovation update! Ohhhhhh, is this getting close! Last night I came home to cabinets that were set – so I took the liberty of moving a few things into them! The handles aren’t on the drawers or cupboards yet, but I just wanted to put SOMEthing in there. I couldn’t do much anyway, since I hurt my back the other day – moving in’s gonna be slow for this old bird. Countertops are due for installation Thursday – hoping today I’ll come home to trim and floors done, maybe shelves and blinds installed. We’ll see!

Once in a while, you find a stamp you. just. love. This crazy buzzard from Art Impressions is surely one of my faves! Especially on a day with a ‘tude!

And I just love the sentiment that goes with it, which I stamped inside. The thing I really love – lots of “grumpy” stamps are grumpy AT the recipient. This stamp and sentiment are pointing their finger at the sender!

Ciara’s AnyHero card

Posted on Mar 19, 2013 | 11 comments

Renovation update (maybe this’ll be a daily?)….today I ordered the cabinets!! Got a good deal at a little place in Tacoma – super nice folks, anxious to beat what Home Depot gave me for an estimate. They didn’t come in below it, but totally upgraded the quality of the cabinet boxes, so I’m good with it. Ordered them – yeah!! First tangible thing purchased! Demolition guy is scheduled to start on Thursday, so I have a couple evenings to tackle moving everything out of the craft and shipping rooms. EEEP! And when someone asked how long it’s expected to take, and I said 10 days, she sent me this video…hoping it doesn’t happen here!

I’ve always wanted to have some cards “from” our little miss Ciara to send to our heroes. They just love her, since they get pictures of her in the boxes every time! So when Art Impressions came out with their DOGS line.…I just knew I needed the golden retriever! If you have a special critter of your own, see if they have your breed!

The sentiment is from one of the My Favorite Things sets – and I put it on my block in a “wave” to create the shaped sentiment. Added some Echo Park paper, some Hero Arts stars and a little May Arts ribbon, and it was just perfect! Copic colors: E44 Y32 YR24 E55 YR21 RV95Sandy Allnock - AI Ciara Hero Card 2

Posted on Mar 1, 2013 | 1 comment

T.G.I.F! Wow has it been a week, hasn’t it? So much has been going on ’round my house and workplace, I’m ready for a nap! I’ve got another dentist looking at my bum tooth today – and I’m trying to be optimistic that they’ll fix me up, and that it won’t hurt while they do :) I don’t ask much, do I? haha!

The stamp on this card is a fun one from Art Impressions – this is totally what I want to be doing very soon! Needing a good long nap, I think that’ll make everything right :)

TGIF! I hope you’ve all had a good week…it’s been a NUTTY one for me. Holy cow. Was it a full moon? I’m hoping today isn’t like the rest of the week…I have a dentist appointment, and….well, I haven’t been in a long time. I mean a long time. I won’t tell you how long but….long. Eeep. I hate going to the dentist!

I digress. I’ve got a fun card to share with you today! I have some Art Impressions Whoot Owls  - sooooo dang cute, these lil guys!! I made this one for a team member whose last day is today – and she wears these kinds of hats a lot, so I thought it was the perfect card for her. Totally going to miss her smiling face :)

Furrrrrrever!

Posted on Jan 30, 2013 | 1 comment

I have a card for you today with another of the Furrrrrever in my heart stamps from Art Impressions! The debate on the last one I shared settled that it’s a really big cat and a really tiny dog. Not sure I buy that, but maybe that’s because I have a huge dog! I can’t picture a cat big enough to hug her like this, even Tsuki, who is huge, still isn’t that big!

Papers here are by Authentique….and the ribbon – guess – May Arts! Copics W4 W2 W00 E35 E32 B000

AI: Bluebird of Happiness

I just love this stamp and sentiment from Art Impressions! He’s going to make someone just howl! :) I combined him with some papers from Authentique…the banners are actually just cut from one piece of striped paper; not separate strips.

Furever in my heart

TGIF! I have a mini celebration today: I’ve done nice long walks two days this week! I know, I know, it’s only January 4th. But I gotta celebrate before my streak is over, right? lol :) I’m going to try for Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch, and a really really long walk on weekends….hope I can keep it up. I’ve also had two nights in a row of 6+ hours of sleep – another one of my goals.

I’ve got a little card that has an image showing just how I feel about Friday – lol! I love you Friday! This would be loved by kids – they love puns, and this sentiment just makes me smile…and I know it would for them. I do have a question though. What IS that big animal? Even if it’s an otter or prairie dog, it’s a little oversized, right? Or maybe I’m just forgetting the size of an otter….LOL. I used paper from Bazzill’s School Days line.

Hooooot! It’s your birthday

Posted on Sep 10, 2012 | 8 comments

Happy OWH Birthday week! I’m having a blast with a month-long party, and I hope everyone else is too :) Today I have a rarity for my blog…an actual birthday card! And – it’s an oversized one, 5×5! Yipes. Once in a blue moon I let myself go big-format for fun, and with this sketch I wanted to give it room to breathe.

What sketch, you ask? Well earlier this summer a pub had put out a call with this sketch in it – and my lil owl didn’t get picked. Dang! But….he was perfect to save for this week when we celebrate our OWH birthday on Wednesday.

The sentiment – from the Hero Arts Year Round Sentiments set – was placed on a curve on the block and stamped. And the balloon is just a die with a hand-cut doobliedoo at the bottom. Copic colors E51 E53 E35 BG23 BG49 YG09 YG06 Y35 Y06 B00

There’s a nap for that!

This card was entered in Art Impressions’ monthly challenge – red white and blue was the theme. (And I didn’t win…lol!) But I figured I’d share this one on the last Friday before LaborDay Weekend – seemed appropriate for labor!

She’s not a patriotic gal, especially if she works for the military or government – lol – but I added some stars just in case they were looking for patriotica. LOL! Just plain cardstock everywhere, and the new Fiskars Close Curve border punch.

Art Impressions + May Arts with tutorial

Posted on May 30, 2012 | 26 comments

Okeydokey, I came up with something to do with these penguins! I wanted a simple ribbon use; they’re such darling penguins, I wanted the card to stay fairly simple, so the image would truly be the hero here. The coloring tutorial is in Sunday’s Memorial Day coloring (see the post here with the video in it)…Copic colors are:

I went with a simple white background so I could play around with a ribbon embellishment – on complex paper this could get crazy. Solid seems to work well to let the ribbon work show. Wondering how I got it even? I used a scrap punched piece of paper as a guide! I first did the row shown here – I made a mark in every other opening. After punching that row, I moved the scrap to a new location and made marks for the other row of holes. Easy peasy!

Here’s what the back side looks like after threading the ribbon through it…

And a closeup of the front, with a brad added on one side.

It’s a super easy technique once you figure out your method for making the holes even; my method is what was at hand, but rulers work great too! Thread it the opposite way (front/back),  and you can have the x’s on front. (That seemed too girlish for a card that might possibly go to a guy. And I’m always up for leaving gender neutral cards as is when I can! Hope you enjoyed this…come on back tomorrow, more ribbon fun ahead!
